Cold/Flu Season Now that Fall is starting and school is back in session it's also the time of the year for colds/flues since it's the change of the seasons. I thought it might be nice to start a little thread to help those of us who are "oh so fortunate" to get sick. I happen to be one of those individuals right now, the fall cold has struck me down. Anyone out there have any home remedies, or unusual ways that help them when they are feeling down and out? I've been drinking lemon tea all day, but wondering if there are any other suggestions.
My mum used to give us fresh squeezed lemon with honey in it to drink, don't think it actually helped, but it's a great memory. And it's Spring in Oz, so we are comming up to the summer cold season which I think is worse because it's so beautiful outside but you feel too miserable to enjoy it!
I have this stuff at home: http://www.asiachi.com/posumon.html I just rub some on when I'm congested and next day I'm pretty good
Shana, my favorite cold remedy is tea with whiskey and lemon. You can substitute Brandy or another hard liquor if you prefer. A little honey doesn't hurt, either. It really works. Every cold I get seems to head for my chest and this remedy helps me breathe better, and sleep too! Hope you're feeling better soon. I've got a bit of a tickle myself but I think it's probably allergies.
Blah, home sick today. I'm a customer service rep for MetLife's long term care, and my voice is gone, how is that going to work? Hehe, oh well, I get to sit at home and play the sims2 and right now I'm eating chicken wild rice soup, pretty yummy. I was wishing that I had some lemons here, my mom used to give us those plastic lemons with the juice in them to suck on when we were little...nothing like that here, but I do have tea and honey...sorry SBW, no hard liquor; although that does sound good!
Yay! Here in the Southern Hemisphere, we've got Spring!! I hope you get better, Shana. I hate the flu & cold!
I think i'm coming down with something Same time every year, as Josh will know at the EA event in 2003 :(
Shana, I've had the same thing you are having now. Last week I had no voice, I kept coughing and having chest congestion. Hubby woke me up one morning because I was wheezing in my sleep and gave me a breathing treatment! (having a respiratory therapist as a hubby has its advantages) This week I have a voice again, but am still experiencing some coughing and a runny nose.
I know, it sucks royally. I was out of work for three days, and still sick over that weekend. Come that monday I really didn't want to go back to work. I'm still coughing. I wish I had a respiratory therapist as a husband, whenever I get sick it triggers and ashma attack and I end up in the ER, this time I went before it got too bad. Hope you feel better soon!
Well, Shana, I know lots of single male RT's. j/k. Thanks, hon. I hope you get to feeling better, too.
LOL...you know...my cousin does live in North Carolina, and she is getting married this coming summer so I will be in the area... just kidding, I love my boyfriend. Umm...he works at a box plant right now, so if we ever move we'll be able to get lots of boxes(?) Eh, it's not forever, he's going to school right now for his degree in law enforcement, he's going to make one hot cop! I'm hoping one-day to be a cop's wife . We've been together for 1 yr 7 months now, which isn't too long, but we've been living together since 4 months into the relationship...that was crazy insane, I wouldn't recommend it to just anyone, thankfully it's worked out wonderfully for us. We now have three beautiful cats together (see the petz thread for their pictures) and are planning on spending the rest of our lives together! (at least I am!) Still waiting on the ring, which I know it will happen, just not sure when. I'll make sure to update when that happens, right now we can't afford to get engaged. Not sure if y'all remember, but one of our cars was stolen about two months back, we're still hurting since we didn't have full coverage on that vehicle and we had to buy a new car out of pocket. We only spent $1500 on the new vehicle, but it still hurts. Even if we don't get engaged soon I'm okay with that, I already feel like we're married. We have a joint checking, share all our bills, credit cards, title on the car, three cats together (that's at least a 15 year commitment!), share insurance policies and I take care of most of his medical/insurance stuff. It's to the point where it's not his money or my money, it's our money now. Kind of a scary thing! But I love him and he loves me and that's all that matters, right? Anyway...back on topic...umm...feeling a little better, but every time I sneeze my throat hurts, ever have that feeling? It sucks!
Aw, it's nice to know what's going on with people these days. Too bad about the car. Ours is dying. I got sick too. Mine isn't that bad though. I don't mind the sore throat - in fact I like it! It's an excuse to eat Soothers in class. They usually don't make much difference, but they sure taste good! I passed it on to Mum, Lee, and my Dad. Hehe. Shame though. It's Mum's birthday today (41, and she looks fab Happy Birthday!!!) and this morning she got up and felt like crap. Sorry, Ma! And yeah, the throat-sore-when-sneeze problem is bad! I hardly ever sneeze when I get a cold. I just have sniffles, a cough, and a sore throat (yay!). I had the worst cold earlier this year though - thats usually when I get a bad one, in either December/January/February.
I caught the flu recently from my friend. I'm all groggy and depressed all the time. You know, those times when you just feel like dieing? Suddenly, youth isn't that important anymore...
