The Patch The Patch The Patch Is OUT!!!

Thank you Rowanstaff for posting that tidbit of news this morning. That is a VERY big deal. I see that it fixes my cursed Blank Icon Bug! I am so happy the got it out. I wish I had time to play it and try it out. (sniff, sniff, I have to work sometime today.)

I downloaded it yesterday. I can't tell if it installed though. It zipped somewhere! My game is working...so if it did install it hasn't caused any problems. I even took out a bunch of pescado hacks, too. Someone on MATY matched up the pescado hacks with the patch "fixes".

There's a new patch for University and one for Nightlife. The Nightlife one includes the University stuff. It's on the official site. It was released last night.

I just fitted it to my game. So glad I have yet to access my more important families. Everyone was back to standing in silly places. I confess that I haven't even read the list of cures for the Uni game, but the list of fixes for NL don't appear to have addressed anything I was concerned about (eg some NPC's lacking a phone ... especially when the varmints phone to say the date was great or whatever :( ) Meanwhile I am struggling to figure why two brothers who were at 100/100 when they left home are now unable to phone each other in spite of being able to see each other's houses. They can phone each other's wives and kids, just not each other. Aw, I was hoping to sidle up toward my second millenium of posts on a high note ... performs handbrake turn!!!! >>>> screeeeeech!!!!

    The patch is BRILLIANT! :D :D :D

So confused ... must lie down ... so is it good or bad, Mirelly?

Well, for better or worse, I've downloaded it and will install it when I get home.

No problem, it's what i do. :DI had a unique bug hit right before I downloaded the patch. An adult I had took the science career and got the Teen / elder version. I was a tad confused. I didn't save, exited the game, and saw the patch was out. I hope it won't happen again.

Bad? Treat it as an expansion pack. It will reset all your sims to being at home in 90% green, those who should be at work will get a warning about missing work, those you thought were gonna get a promo cos you last saw them off in the carpool in plat with all the right friends and qualifications will be at home ... missing work ... so hope this finds you before you install it but ... LOL ... I guess it depends.

I already have two households with confused ownership of college diplomas ... this is a bug that the patch prevents from happening so long as it hasn't happened yet ... so yeah, it's great for my principle family that I still haven't played.

I don't know why my two brothers can't phone each other. They are twins (children of the principle family and important but not indispensible except that my sim me is married to one of them ) so maybe that's the problem, but they were keeping up OK before NL.

Don't worry though. I'm not going all cynical, a la fishman. I just wish that Maxis would ship "moddable" games that didn't require wholesale revision of the coding with each and every expansion. Why, for example, couldn't objects such as phones, for example, be given a number of reserved but unused tokens for future expansion pack use so that modders adding extra functions could code their mods for all future "official" expansion because the official code strings are already present in the object code.

But hey I am only a dumb girlie. What would I know about complicated technical stuff? :p

I posted a thread under the Troubleshooting boards for post-patch problems. Please add to it any problems yer having so people like JMP and others can start on fixes to EA's fix :p

LOL. The problems I iterated above aren't fixable for the most part. I was just warning folks to treat the patch as an expansion pack installation and to make sure not to install it with families saved in the middle of something important (like being at work or school).

Pescado isn't gonna be fixing anything NL related in any meaningful way for some time because his byzantine lifestyle prevents him from getting hold of the game as quickly as we reckless ones who daily waste time in sleeping in beds and living in flimsy houses made of wood and plastic and clay and driving mass-produced cars on roads that other people are allowed to use. Man! It's dangerous but it's exhilierating! :p

What's the patch supposed to FIX? Sounds like it causes more problems then it fixes -- BIG ones. I'm afraid to download it now.:(

Lynet, I think it fixes a lot of problems...primarily University glitches. Many of them were critical. The patches always cause some new ones. When downloading the NL patch they had a link to see the fixes for University...which are included with NL patch. Once I downloaded the patch the link for the University list was missing. Someone on MATY copied both lists of fixes. You can check it out here:

Yeah...it bugs me, too. It's never seemed logical that someone that has tons of weapons and an apparent desire to use them lives so that no one can find him. You'd think he'd have chosen to live in a crime ridden neighborhood. At this point with University, he had 60+ hacks out addressing problems. He hasn't even updated his old stuff for NL. He's apparently playing some other game right now but I think he's hiding from all the estrogen on his own board. ;)

Yeah, Lyn don't be put off. Just remember to 'park' all your important families before you install it. (By park I mean all at home not doing anything important!)

So, I installed the patch because it had some things I thought the game needed, like the nanny fix ...

My sim ended up behind the stairwell! I took a picture. I'll post it if anyone's interested. She was writing in her diary, stuck in the one-square space behind the stairs. I had to put in a door so she could leave. Too funny.

Also, it's not perfect. It claims to fix the "want electronic item you already have" bug but my teen sim still keeps asking for a cell phone when she has one already.

And, it's just possible it switched my sim's turn ons. I have two sisters, one likes blondes and redheads (those romance sims) and the other likes guys with black hair. Well, last night the one who likes black hair went crazy for a guy with blonde hair while her sister thought he was boring. So I checked. Their turn-ons are still the same.

Hmmmm .... Not that it matters that much, as long as they get some romance, but very strange.

Did she roll the want when she happened to be using the phone? Because that happened to me last night, and I thought it might have been because when those items are in use they are not in the inventory.

I downloaded the patch and installed it. Then I successfully moved George and Sybil Sparrow's tombstones to the community neighborhood church. Whatever time I could spare from weekend running around I spent in getting my sim families ready for the download. So far so good. :) The tombstones are there and moveable in the buy/build mode for the community lot and they stay put when different households come to visit. Emmeline and her college roommates went to the church to visit the graves. No problems.

The donwload occurred in the nick of time. The ghost of Emmeline's father George (not to be confused with Candida's son, George) found a way to come down off the roof where his tombstone was stored to roam the household. There are no stairs to the roof so I don't know how he did it and I never will, since he's now buried at the church.

Yes, that occurred to me. :D

It can only hold a one-square object, though. Might be fun to put something there, just for giggles.

Hey, a chair would be funny, especially if people decided to sit on it.

    The Patch

I recently downloaded the patch for the sims university and the sims nightlife, and now all of a sudden my sims can't call friends on the phone. It says that the sim does not own a phone. Before I downloaded the patch, my sim was socializing with the sim on the phone. So now my sim is going to lose friends, because she can't socialize, or invite the sims over by using the phone.
    Help Me Please!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    What went wrong?

I'm afraid I had the same sort of problem before I got the patch (for example adult twins could no longer phone each other) ... the patch didn't cure it either (not that it was meant to, of course.) In this sort of case you will need to look at moving affected families into new houses in the hopes of curing the problem ... or just living with the problem and get your affected sims to make new friends. Or put that neighborhood on hold until the modding and hacking community come up with some better fixes and instead start a brand new neighborhood.

So you did nothing wrong. This sort of thing happens in complicated games in spite of what people like JMP say.
