    HELP!!!!!!! Drama (deadly)

Hey, I'm new to The Sims 2 and I have a problem with kids. I've tried the pregnant mother thing twice but they both died:( . I've tried starting out with a toddler but that ended up worse; exhausted wife, dad at work, neglective nanny, mad and non-learning toddler, wife dead, brought back, then on kids birthday mom cooked pasta, went up stairs to pee and died of hunger:mad: grrrr. Pasta caught on fire burnt down most of house killing maid and nanny while husband was at work leaving child mentally disturbed and 1ft. away from burning to ash in the kitchen (tried and fell asleep surrounded by fire).Dad got home, freaked out burn to death and my toddler (who grew to child during fire, dont forget this was on her B-Day) was taken away leaving an empty burnt down house.... I need help; tips, tricks, anything..... Remember basically need help with pregnancy, babies, and AVOIDING DEATH!!! lol help plz?

OMG, what a terrible collecciton of events to happen to one little family. Yes, keeping a pregnant sim healthy can be a little tricky. Try some of the following:

1.) Always put a smoke detector over the stove so the fireman comes and puts out the fire. Fires happen a lot because sims are tired, in a bad mood, distracted, etc., no matter how many cooking points they have.

2.) When the pregnant lady gets real tired I'd let her go to bed--for only a little while if she looks like she's getting real hungry. Then wake her up and send her to the fridge to drink or eat something, anything, like instant meal or juice, just to get her away from the point of starvation. Then let her go back to bed or have her fix more to eat, depending on her energy level. Pregnant sims eat alot. Some of them also throw up a lot. :p

3.) Put her bed near the kitchen or put a refrigerator, chair and table in the bedroom so she doesn't have far to go. Give her a food processor and have her fix a chef's salad (if she has enough cooking points) so that she doesn't set fires. I would sometimes let someone else cook a meal and serve it in the kitchen, then pause the game and move the plate myself to her table in the bedroom so she wouldn't have far to go.

4.) Yes, nanny's are a real pain. But chances are the toddler in residence will get fed and not be taken away by the social worker if they're there (and you have a smoke detector.) I call the nanny if I'm desperate (as it can get REALLY hairy when you have twins.) Other option--built in nanny: when you create a family, create a stay-at-home grandparent. :)

Your family suffered worse than most. But pregnant sims will occasionally die anyway no matter what you do. For instance, they can choke to death on their dinner. A couple of mine have come real close to starving to death but managed to survive. Others here on the forum have not been so lucky.

Good luck with your next family

Or, if you don't mind a hack I recommend Merola64s Multi painting found here http://www.simchaotics.com/ in the sims2 section. I try to use it as little as possible, but if it means the avoidance of death, it can't be a bad thing....

Be sure to keep the mother's asperation meter in at least gold by filling as many wants as possible. Then she can use the "happy machine" to keep her needs fulfilled. If her aspiration meter starts to dip into green just have her ask hubby for a house date, nothing like a dream date with the one you love to perk your spirits up! ;)

Does simATTACK91 have University and Nightlife? Is that what you're talking about, WereBear, when you mention dream date? Or just the hugging and kissing, etc., that lovers can do?

You are absolutely right in correcting me...I was giving advice with blinders on, thinking that everyone is like me and is OCD about buying extension packs.

Yes, I meant a NL dreamdate...but it could be accomplished (although more slowly) by engaging in a little romance without NL. I find that a little huggin' and smoochin' on their "simnifcant other" tends to roll a lot of 500 point romance wants just like on a NL date. The only difference is that with NL you get to see your date's wants making it ultra-easy to make everybody happy and full of aspiration points, which after a while leads to that "Have a dream date" want that doles out a sweet 5000 aspiration points.

Yeah, before the expansion packs I had a lovey-dovey couple who were in the platinum when they died (of old age) simply because they got a kick out of flirting and kissing with each other all the time.

You are right that it's important to keep the expectant mother in a good mood along with lots of food and rest. :)

Well, I could pretend to be a beneficent diety...but I really just try to keep 'em platinum so I can juice 'em up in the electric washtub and put 'em back to work! Saves a lot of simoleons on groceries and beds too! :D

Oh, I remember the days I used to be killing pregnant mothers left and right. I'd start a family with a family sim for a mom and then immediately get her pregnant, resulting in her sadly premature death. Then when I started a Legacy family, it was obviously some time before my sim found a suitable dude for a hubby, and by then she'd accumulated tens of thousands of cooking points. Surprise surprise, she had 3 sons without fatality! So I always end up fine if the mom has enough cooking points to cook one meal that will get her hunger into the green, while the hubby goes to work as well! As for when the kid's actually born, I can usually maneuver around the sims enough to take care of the baby without fainting or getting a bugs--while both parents have a job! I do hire a nanny, however, but she doesn't really do anything, just keeps the social worker from coming. She never really hurts the kid, just wastes my money, but it's not much anyway.

Further to all the above ...

Don't try starting a family until the parents can actually afford it. For example:The cheap beds aren't very comfortable and sims spend longer sleeping in them before they recharge their energy. The best beds do a full recharge in less than 6 hours. Likewise cheap cookers don't satisfy hunger as much (or as quickly) as the best cooker.

Make sure at least one sim has at least 5 cooking skill points. The less time sims spend cooking, eating and sleeping the more time they have to concentrate on fulfilling their wants. Get that right and they soon accumulate points that you can use to buy rewards.

NOTE that is essential to concentrate on fulfilling as many of your sims wants as possible, not just for the points but to keep them in a good healthy mood. Just keeping them fed, washed and comfy isn't enough ... if a sim gets it into his head that he wants to eat cereal don't waste time cooking him pancakes! Give him what he wants!

Don't waste aspiration points on the stupid money trees ... they take up time being looked after and unless you use hack other sims tend to rob them anyway. Save up your points and buy Thinking Caps and Rejuvenators ... but don't try to use these if your sim isn't in a least a gold mood.

Finally try starting off with knowledge sims. Knowledge sims are possibly easier to control for a player just getting started because they tend to come up with predictable and easy to fulfill want (eg get a skill point ;) )

Good luck ... love the tale of woe. It was awesomely ghastly! :p
