Hi everyone. All of a sudden my build mode, buy mode, and my reward sections are off limits. This is only for one household. I've tried everything but I can't get them back. Does anyone know how to fix this? Thanks! i know this happens when an emergency occurs, but nothing happened and they have been unusable for 3 sim days. HELP!! I have a new baby but I can't buy a crib or any toys because I can't go into buy mode.
I've heard of this glitch happening. It sometimes seems to follow a problem with the fireman coming. While there may be a better way of doing it, one way to fix it would be to evict the family from the house from the neighborhood screen. This sometimes gets rid of the problem. Also, have you patched your game. If you have just TS2, there is a patch for that. There are also patches if you have EP1 (TS2U) only or if you have Nightlife (with or without TS2U.) There were a lot of things like that that the patches fixed.
When one of my lots got all buggy and the buy/build and save/exit buttons went grey and off limits I downloaded JMP's "ffsdebugger" which looks like a yellow box that you can download then buy and place on the lot (that is to say, you can buy it and place it on the lot before the bug manifests itself if you are starting over from a saved game.) I did this after trying the "move-the-family-out-of-the-house" option and it didn't work because the bug moved right along with the family. I was anxious to save the family because a baby was about to be born. In my case, the baby's birth was the crisis causing everything to get screwed up. That baby was finally born safely and grew up to be Emmeline who is now telling her story in my Dear Emmy thread. That poor baby was born about three or four times because I kept reloading a saved game after the buy/build/save buttons went grey and I had to ctrl-alt-delete to escape the game and reboot my computer. Is Monique's problem the same as mine was? If moving the family doesn't work, is JMPs debugger box still an option? I'm going to hunt down the list of fixes that have been OK'd for use with Nightlife. I'll be back.
OK, I can't go read the list because I'm having a devil of a time with the internet tonight and with the Worldsims site and connections in particular. But there is a thread under troubleshooting which has a link to the list of hacks that are tested in Nightlife. It's post #2 found under http://forums.worldsims.net/showthread.php?t=6273 Maybe tomorrow the connections will be working better and I can go read what's good. I'd like to have that box handy myself anyway.
I checked Boris' list of hacks and objects that are OK or not OK if you have the Nightlife Expansion. The ffsdebugger is an 'object' that has not been tested yet. Sorry . (It does, however, work with the University Expansion Pack if you haven't got Nightlife yet.) KatAnubis' recommendations about the patches are important. Moving the family may be the only option, too. Hope it works for you. Let us know.
This is actually very timely. Last night when my couple went out for the evening with her driving, when she drove home somehow when they should have ended up at home, *she* (the driver) came home but he was still out with the car (with the icon saying "out somewhere" as if he was just out driving somewhere.) I exited without saving and tried several ways of approaching the lot to see if things went any differently. I also tried just waiting to see if he'd come home. No such luck! I tried having him come to visit from another lot, which got him visiting. However, at home, his wife can't call him and she can't call anyone else either. And her buy/build is dead. But if the patch was supposed to cure this, no go because I have put in the NL patch. It sounds like I'm going to have to move them out as I suggested earlier.
I haven't had any problem with them since moving them out (except for having to re-furnish the house). They even finally got pregnant (as I was afraid they'd need to go to a fertility specialist compared to the normal try for baby with all my other Sims). Now they have a very nice baby girl, and mom got pregnant first try and is on her second day. (The baby will probably end up a toddler on the next baby day of birth.) I figured it would take her a few "try for babies" before it would take, so I'd better get them racking up the aspiration points (since the couple always seem to have at least one woohoo, if not a woohoo and a "woohoo in bed", at any one time). But this time she got pregnant first try. Go figure.
