Adoption problem Hi, I'm new here... I've been playing the sims for a long time, and this is the first time this has happened. I told my sims to adopt a baby, and when the child was 'delivered' the Buy and Build mode buttons became faint and unaccessable, as did the options in the options menu. Thanks!
This happens while certain actions occur (eg a social worker delivering a child ... or removing one ... ). Sadly if an error occurs the game can get "stuck" You can exit without saving or if you like taking a risk you can explore the boolprop testingcheatsenabled true menu
Those buttons gray out whenever the social worker visits. You just need to be patient and wait for them to normalize again. If they never normalize, then I agree you have a problem. But it may take a while depending on your machine.
OK let's assume your social worker came and brought a kid then got in the blue car and drove away but the build/buy/game option buttons remained greyed out. [Shift]+[Ctrl]+[C] type: boolprop testingCheatsEnabled true You then need to find the problem object or character and force an error on it. You do this by holding down the shift key and clicking on likely candidates. A large menu appears ... look carefully for the option Force Error (accept no substitute!! You've been warned ... some options may look tempting but remember Hansel and Gretel!!!!) When you force and error you will be offered 3 choices: Cancel, Reset, & Delete. You want Reset. Cancel is pointless and delete will cost you simoleons and some items are irreplacable (eg the mailbox) In adoption sticking scenarios the most likely causes of sticking are the new kid themselves. If the new child hasn't got an icon in the family menu bar at the extreme left you might start on them. Or possibly the social worker is still there and won't go away ... if so start with them. You have given us so little to go on. If nothing works then just quit the game by hitting the Windows key on your keyboard and at the desktop right click on the The Sims 2 tab in the task bar (at the bottom of the screen) and choose Close ... you might get a message saying the program isn't responding ... no kidding, huh? When you start up the game again you will have lost all changes since your last save. If this was a long time ago you will hopefully not make the same mistake again. Saves take only a few moments and health considerations should make you get up and leave the screen for a few minutes every half hour ... get used to saving then!! If the boolprop cheat works .... you must cancel it before resuming play boolprop testingCheatsEnabled false
