Downtown Dissapointment This has probably been discussed before but... I moved a sim onto a downtown lot for the first time last night. I might have dreamt it, but I thought the downtown areas had apartement buildings a-la Urbz, and was dissapointed to only find single family lots available for move in. Turns out that the apt buildings are simply neighborhood decorations. Was I dreaming about the playable apts or were they vapor-ware that was advertised but left out of NL's final release?
There was some talk about apartments as far back as Uni, but it really hasn't happened yet. I don't like having residents on the Downtown lots, either. They feel very cut off there for some reason to me.
I couldn't find any either (and I looked because I thought I'd heard the same thing and imagined something like the dorms in Uni--that is--they'd fill up once you moved someone in) but decided to build a big house with three floors, each an apartment and then move elders into them. They go out partying together. I think of it as a retirement home. They have fun bowling and dining out. I've only got two elder couples in there at the moment but eventually I'll get another couple moved in. I often see one or more of them hanging out at the downtown clubs when I'm visiting with a younger group from the neighborhood.
I've never seen apartments discussed except by fans, as opposed to Maxis saying that they'd have it. It would be nice but maybe we'll get it for the Business EP.
It could work like a dorm. If you only had one sim living there it would fill with random townies. If another playable sim wanted an apartment a townie would move out. I think it would be very cool, and help prevent lonely sims. Rent could vary depending on how nice the building was. I made an apartment in my old town but never got around to playing it. Even with the cheapest materials a four-plex was $60,000. But I figured four college students could get together and buy it. I may do that in my current game if I ever get enough people. Trying to limit the number of people this time around. Must limit people. Family sims baaaaaad. (Just trying to convince myself. I've got a very nice toddler who'd make a great family sim. But that way leads to chaos. However, I only have one family so maybe it wouldn't be so bad? Dunno.)
