Keeping track of the generations Do you guys keep track of the family-trees/generations to make sure you don't have 1st cousins marry each other and so forth?
As far as I know, first cousins aren't even allowed to flirt. The family trees come in handy when deciding whom one can date. Now, keeping everyone at appropriate ages, that's a real challenge. I try to be good about that. When I first started I had a sim become an elder before her mom.
Yeah the family trees are automatic and never wrong ... I just found out that one of my sims has a different father to his brothers and sisters How could I have forgotten about that shameful incident!!!!??? (I'd been wondering why there was so much posturing and face slapping going on between those two families ... )
Well, half siblings can date, because I accidentally hooked up Vidcund Curious and...what's her name? The red-haired alien Singles sim together, and they both have the same father. I only noticed it after they got engaged.
I keep track of that (in addition to the family tree in the game.) But then I have a notebook to keep track of all the details of my families so that if I don't play them for a while, I can still figure out "what's next" when I do play them again. I have this nifty program from France which can make charts and so I have all that in chart form. (I also used it for making graph paper for figuring out houses before I build them in the game. Graph paper being portable so that I can work on them when I'm traveling and the like. Also so that I can reproduce houses that I like.) But I like keeping track of the families to make sure that even if a game allows a relationship, I don't have them do it (for second cousins, for instance.)
If you ever visit MoreAwsomeThanYou.com, someone (I can't remember her name, I'm so sorry if they are reading this) uploaded a little program that lets you enter your sim's information and track their family trees and history. I played around with it and liked it, but it became tedious entering all the information on all my Sims. I entered two families in 2 1/2 hours. I had to open SimsPE and keep flipping back and forth to see what their stats were, their final grade in UNI, etc. Someone else reccomended using a Family Tree Maker Program to track them. I happen to have Family Tree Maker, but again, it seems tedious to enter all that information. But, if you are a person who keeps notebooks, one of these programs might be for you.
Warning: Strangetown Spoiler Normally, that doesn't happen, but I've heard of other people getting weird family stuff from Strangetown. It could be because they have different last names since the 'hood was created pre-Uni and they live in separate households. They cheated to make them family in the first place. Technically, she should be Chloe Curious, but she's not, so the game might allow her to marry him. It's a fun town to play, though. Love the Specter graveyard. Guess Olive doesn't get along with ANYONE. I think I saw a pizza delivery girl among the ghosts. Wonder if she got any more pizzas after that?
For some strange reason (might be my overactive imagination) I get freaked out with the ghosts in TS2. It's really stupid since they're like exactly the opposite of everything and anything that I'm afraid of (The Ring, anyone?), but, yeah. I get freaked out when they pop out of their graves.
Kristalrose, Do you (or anyone else) know what the name of the program was or who wrote it? I have been searching that site but haven't found anything about it. Thanks.
Of course soon as I posted the above, I found it. It looks interesting. I'm a notebook keeper so this should help.
anyway you could possibly post the link to that specific thread? I'd be interesting in seeing it as well. Thanks!
I don't know how to post a link (ie. I don't have time to figure it out), so here is the website: http://www.sims2db.com/ Okay, duh, when I pasted the website it created the link....to funny!
thank you, that does look interesting, I'm going to download that tonight and maybe play around with it a little. It will help me when I'm trying to remember names of people when I'm working on my DeFoy twins story...which I really need to update that, I'll get around to that soon too...promise.
LOL from me too ... obviously you were surprised at the technical genius of the forums ... but in future please take note of the Edit button that is available (for a short while after posting a message) for you to add a PS rather than make a second post answering your own message ...
LOL, 123. Me, too, and I'm a lot older than you. I get a little shiver when they pop out, and the spooky werewolf sounds make my daughter snuggle into my lap. (Which makes it a little difficult to play, since she's tall like me.) But once they're out they crack me up. I loved when Lia popped through Sheldon Handby's chest when Brandi was trying to kiss him and made her wet her pants. Too funny. The Ring was just about at the edge of my scary tolerance. I was pretty freaked out after that one. Not gonna watch Ring 2.
I didn't even watch the movie--the idea alone of a young girl drowned by her mother and then coming back for revenge out of a TV just freaks me out. I'm sure after watching that one everyone avoided their TVs for a couple weeks..
