Fun to read, too. Drinking never solved any problems. In fact, it makes them far worse. I hope River figures that out soon.
Mood: Excited, a little scared Dear Blog, Im pretty nervous right now. River and I adopted a girl! A little girl named Marpessa. Shes such a sweetie. Her biological father stopped taking her to school--I guess he was a druggie or something like that--and social services took her away. Shes so shy, and shes a little afraid of going to school because she hasnt in months. Rivers been acting strange lately. Hes always really jumpy and every time I tease him about something, he looks extremely guilty. Im starting to get a little suspicious, but I think I might wait it out a while before I ask him about it. Our relationship is still so rocky, and Im starting to wonder if well ever stop fighting. And Louis is growing up so fast! Hes already six, and will be starting kindergarten next month. I think kids usually start school at five (I know I did, but then again I was the youngest in my class) but I was a little late with picking out the school, what with our relationship problems. I just hope we wont get into a serious fight, because, Ill admit it: I know if I got really mad, Id divorce him. Itd be me who would go to our lawyer and ask for divorce papers, not him, because I lose my temper really easily. Were on thin ice now.
River glared at Kali sullenly. “You know, I’m not going to be doing this forever.” Kali smiled, her white teeth shining like pearls in the dim lighting of Rodney’s Hideout. “But you can’t stay away from me, am I right?” River looked away, his chest constricting. He knew what he was doing was wrong, seriously wrong, but…he was drawn to Kali, like a moth to a flame. Every time she called his cellphone (Okay, so he doesn’t really have a cellphone since I don’t have Uni, but whatever) and asked to meet him at some shady bar, a rejection would be on the tip of his tongue, but then he’d find himself saying yes and getting into his car to meet her. What was wrong with him? He was jeopardizing both his relationship with Kina and rest of his family. At first he’d been filled with jubilation when Kina mentioned that she wanted to adopt a little girl, but soon he’d felt dread curdling in the pit of his stomach. Kina, Jacob, Louis, and now Marpessa certainly didn’t deserve a cheating lout like him for a husband and a father. He felt warm lips on his and immediately responded, drawing Kali closer. He wanted to push her away, scream at her and tell her that he never wanted to see her ever again, but he couldn’t bring himself to. He knew that he’d pay for this eventually. Something horrible would happen to him because of this sin he was committing. “River, we have company over!” River got out of his car as he heard Kina’s yell and smiled despite himself, marveling at her cheerfulness and generally good mood, while turmoil filled every part of his being. He unlocked the front door and went inside the house to the livingroom, when his heart stopped. An extremely familiar-looking dark-skinned woman was sitting on their couch, talking with Kina with that seductively smooth voice that had first lured him to her.
Dum-dum-dum-dum. As in River is dumb ... things like that always come back to bite you in the butt, you silly man. And what is it about "the other woman" and her need to stir up trouble? She must know she's going to lose ... Very good stuff, 123 ...
Kali, River whispered, fear causing his voice to crack. Kina grinned. Oh, so you know each other? Great! Howd you meet? River opened his mouth to speak, even though he had no idea what to say, when Kali cut in smoothly. River was, ahem, she coughed delicately, at work, and I happened to bump into him. I told him I knew his wife, and we got to talking. River colored as he lied, Um, yes, thats right. He awkwardly sat down at the other end of the sofa, so that Kina separated him and Kali. Kina glanced at him quickly, suspicion in her dark eyes, but River didnt notice as he twiddled his thumbs. So, honey, how was your day? It wasas good as can be expected. Kina pursed her lips for a moment. Right. She looked like she was about to start the Argument, as theyd both began to call it, but closed her mouth and turned to Kali. How long do you think youll be in town? Oh, I dont know. Another week, perhaps, she drawled, fingering the hem of her dressit was more modest than her usual leather get-up, but still showed anyone who cared to notice that she had great curves. River watched as her manicured fingers smoothed the folds of her dress, mesmerized against his will. Kina cleared her throat. Ill go check the appetizers I have cooking in the oven. She motioned surreptitiously for River to follow her into the kitchen before standing up and leaving the room. River glanced at Kali, who smiled slowly, and quickly followed Kina. River. Kina looked madno, furious, but River could see a hint of sorrow and hopelessness behind it. I know what youve been doing. He opened his mouth to deny it, but she cut him off. Ive had these suspicions for a while now. Always staying late at workyou seemed guilty all the time. But what sealed the deal was that you smelled like another woman when you came to bed. River paled. I dont want to see your face around here for at least a month. You can go stay Kalis, for all I care. She turned around swiftly, and River knew it was because she didnt want him to see her cry. He reached out his hand to lay it on her shoulder, but she slapped it away, going to take the crabcakes out of the oven. As she swept out of the kitchen, River finally felt himself break down, and he wept softly, cursing himself for his stupidity. Sorry I took so long...gosh, had to go to the 3rd page.
Mom? Jacob poked his head into his mothers bedroom, steeling himself for what he knew hed see. Mom, I know what Dads been doing. Kina was huddled on the bed, hugging her knees to her chest. Tears poured openly down her cheeks, and she tried to wipe them away as Jacob came closer. I dont know what youre talking about. Mom, Im fifteen. Dont play stupid with me. He sat down on the bed, on what used to be Rivers side, and put his arm around his mother. I want you to know that I am REALLY MAD at Dadbut you know you have to forgive him. Its already been a week since Ms. Patil came over, and Louis and Marpessa are.confused, at best. Kina shook her head. I need time to think. Andjust tell them Marpessa that Daddys on a business trip. Jacob laughed hollowly. They know Dads a criminal. What kind of business trip would he be on? I knew he was being a bad example for them! Why did he have to be so stubborn Mom. Justgive it some thought, okay? I can handle Louis and Marpessa, butyou cant stay in here forever. He stood up slowly and left the bedroom.
I'd say that girl deserves a whole flower shop's worth of flowers, and a huge apology. Or, he can just go off with Kali. Maybe they deserve each other.
Jakeare you alright? Ivy let her head fall on her boyfriends chest as they watched a movie at her house. Im fine, he said gruffly, curling his fingers in her long black hair. They were barely paying attention to the movieit was a standard chick-flickand were simply enjoying their time together. No, I can tell youre not. Youve been like this all week! She lifted her head to look at him. Jacob placed a soft kiss on her lips, but didnt answer. Its something with your parents, isnt it? He stiffened. Its been all over the school! You cant hide it forever! I can at least try. Jake Ivy. She sighed. Fine, then. She kissed him again, and they sat in silence for the rest of the evening.
I'd kick him out for good. But he is sorry... hmmm. I'd say once a cheater, always a cheater. Kick him out!
I've been meaning to post pictures for quite a while now, but I kept forgetting... So here you go: 1) Kina. 2) River...before the fight. 3) Jacob--sigh, I couldn't find a picture of him without acne. 4) Marpessa--same thing. 5) Louis, thinking about his dad. Yeah, yeah, Louis and Marpessa are suddenly teens. They transitioned about a week ago, and I was freaking out since I was so far behind in the story...more soon, I promise!
