Reason, Season, or Lifetime It was a beautiful sunny and crisp fall morning, and the dorm was starting to come alive with the sounds of everyday living. The cook was busy preparing breakfast in the cafeteria. There were students running out the door for their first classes of the day, some were quietly studying or working on homework, and others were, as usual, hogging the showers. Kailani lay in bed listening to all those sounds shed grown accustom to. Though, this year she was a sophomore. Would it be much different, she thought to herself, then with a sigh, probably not. Nothing exciting has happened in her past why should it now. She had wonderful and loving parents (Lamberto and Danya Guzman) along with two brothers, one a few years older (Reeve) and one minutes her junior (Christian). As she lay there, she contemplated crawling out from under her cozy flannel sheets. She knew that it must have been cold outside as there was a chill in the air. Mornings always seem the coolest in the dorms which made it so difficult to get out of bed. Well, that and she was up until 3 a.m. working on her term paper the night before. She knew it seemed early to start on it; though, shed had an idea and wanted to run with it while it was fresh. With that in mind, Kailani rolled back her sheets and begrudgingly threw her feet to the floor. As she pulled on her robe and slippers, she heard the phone in the hall ringing. Kailani! Its your brother! screeched Meredith. She made a quick jaunt to the cafeteria, grabbed herself a cup of espresso, and picked up the phone. She chatted with Reeve about his career and dating escapades while filling him in on of her and Christians adaptation to college living. After about 20 minutes, the call concluded. Kailani sighed to herself as she put the phone back upon the receiver. She walked into the cafeteria and grabbed a plate of pancakes. She would have preferred an omelet this morning; however, she wasnt in the mood to make one. So, pancakes it will be, which, Kailani thought, was a bonus to living in the dorms. The food wasnt always the best, but it was already prepared and you didnt have to clean up after the meal. While eating and thinking about her mid-term paper, she noticed a stir in the hall. It looked as though someone was moving into the empty room beside her. There had been a kind and quiet girl there; however, dorm life hadnt been for her and shed got her own place for peace and quiet. It was then that she laid her eyes on him. She could barely swallow her food as her heart leapt into her chest. He had shoulder length jet black hair, dark complexion, and lots of tattoosnormally not her thingfrom what she could see. He was headed back outside for another load apparently. She instantly became aware of the fact that she had yet to shower this morning. Had she even combed her hair? She sprang out of her chair and hurriedly headed for the shower room. As she entered the hall she didnt even look, and WHAM. Onto the floor she and his box went. Stunned momentarily, he reached out to help Kailani off the floor. What the heck, lady. Wheres the fire? Her face reddened as she looked up directly into those steel gray-blue eyes and she reached for his hand. Im sorry. So, very sorry, Kailani said shyly. She brushed herself off and reached for the box. He quickly hoisted it up and walked into his room. Kailani stood there for a moment, watching him walk away. First impression says that he doesnt seem very social; however, there was something there. Her face had felt as if it were on fire when she looked into his eyes as he pulled her up off the floor. She shook it off and strode to the shower.
Yes, it is Hawaiian. I like different names from all over. I either hear a name I like or I pick a letter then go to a baby names web site and pick a name from that letter. I don’t care the nationality. If I like it, I use it. I attached a picture of Danya (Reeve, Kailani, and Christian's Mom). It's the only picture I have access to at the moment.
Balraj stood in his dorm room and surveyed the area. It was a bit drab, but hed deal, he didnt need anything more than a bed and clothes. He still wouldnt mind an apartment away from all the noise and mindless twits in dorms. He generally liked quiet. He smiled and thought he actually wouldnt mind life as a recluse. As he put his clothes away and put the sheets on his bed he began to think about that young woman that ran into him, literally, in the hall. She has the most beautiful eyes and, as he chuckled to himself, she made that fluffy, all covering robe and those slippers look smokin hot. He found himself hoping to run into her again, literally or otherwise. After organizing his room a bit, he headed out to the study room to register for his courses in philosophy. Once doing so, he sat at the chess table figuring hed brush up on some skill while he waited for class. Kailani was in her room making her bed and tidying up for the day. Shed heard the door in the room beside hers open and close moments ago. Knowing it was his, shed wait a few minutes, then shed head out to find her brother. Whoa, wait a minute, she thought, Ive been attracted to guys before, whats the big deal. Why am I waiting til hes not around to emerge from my room. I was here first. Then that moment came flooding back. That moment that took her breath away and lit her face on fire. Just his eyes made her tingle all over, then when she grabbed his hand, well anyway . . . What was it about him. She couldnt remember feeling that way about anyone before. Sighing she pulled open the door and headed into the hall. Good grief, there he was in all his shirtless glory. Pull yourself together you bonehead, she told herself as she walked toward him. As Kailani approached Balraj he took note that she was in the room right next to him. He smiled at the thought of having her so close. She was wearing a tank and light colored jeans that held the curves just right. Shaking off that thought, he hoped her personality was as pleasant as her looks. He noticed how cautiously she approached. He was a bit gruff upon their first meeting. I wanted to apologize again for earlier. I-I dont know what I was rushing for. I hope that nothing was broken. If so, Ill replace it. He quipped, Only my mp3 player. Kailani placed her hand over her mouth, Im so sorry, Ill replace it. He chuckled, Im kidding. It was just a box with clothes. Besides, I wasnt exactly paying attention either. She smiled in relief. My name is Balraj, by the way, he said as he extended his hand for a friendly shake. Oh, Balraj, clearing her throat, My name is Kailani. She could once again feel the heat in her face as she reached for his hand.
Hope everyone is having a Happy Thanksgiving. I'm sitting here watching Macy's Parade as I do every year. Headed to my folks in a bit just wanted to get some computer time in before the day sails by. Here are some pics. Danya & Lamberto Guzman Reeve Christian Danya Balraj
Wow, um, I guess your guys are...fashionable....I like their lipstick... I love your sims' names, though!
*doh* The next to last picture is Kailani, not Danya. About the lipstick, I tried to pick a clear/glossy one. Not because I like lipstick on guys, just because most lips are moist and somewhat glossy. I liked the look better than plain. That's just me, I guess.
Fun story so far. I like the long-haired tattoo look, myself, in case no one's guessed that. They're both very cute sims ...
I like the long-haired-tatooed type as well. My hubby has the tats, just not the hair. He's not bald by nature, but by choice. His hair grows so fast and it's so wirey and thick, we just buzz it.
Ooh. I bet he'd look nice with dreads. Sorry, got a thing for tattooed guys with dreads and/or long hair. Not lusting after him in absentia or anything, just saying, with that hair ... My husband has short hair, no tats. I luvs him just the way he is. I'm the one with the tattoo LOL. Considering another one ...
Just then Christian came around the corner. “Hey, Kailani!” Kailani, turned to her brother, “Hello, Christian. I was just coming to find you.” “Yeah, looks like you were. What the heck is wrong with you? Your face is as red as a baby’s smacked bottom.” Kailani rolled her eyes. “Nothing,” as she cleared her throat, “what’s up?” “Not a darn thing. I just got back from class, and wanted to see if you would to go downtown to get something to eat.” “You know, I would, but I have class in a few hours and want to get that assignment complete. Besides, you really don’t care if I go with you or not. You’re only hoping to run into that cute little cheer leader at the club again.” “Ah, you have figured me out,” Christian chuckled as her punched her in the arm. Balraj sat back and watched the exchange. It was very obvious Christian and Kailani were close siblings. At that moment, he wouldn’t have minded having a brother or sister. He was an only child whose parents died in a car accident when he was young. Balraj sat there trying to remember them. He could just barely do so. It didn’t really bother him though. He was raised by a loving guardian and was well off financially. “So, who’s your new friend, Kailani?” “Oh, yes, Christian, Balraj . . . Balraj, Christian.” “Nice to meet you Balraj. You want to go downtown?” “Sure, I’d like to get to know my way around this town.” With that Christian hugged Kailani and walked away. “I’ll see you around then?” questioned Balraj as he stared into her eyes. “Yes, yes you will,” Kailani’s voice trailed off as he turned to follow Christian. Kailani wasn’t sure how she was able to finish her class work in between daydreaming, but she did. She even managed to somewhat pay attention in class. All she could do was think of him. All of him. His hair, his eyes, his . . . stop it! She got back to the dorm and there was still no sign of either her brother or Balraj. Thank goodness. She went about her business, which included finishing her mid-term paper, and retired early.
Balraj hadn’t seen much of Kailani lately other than a few hurried hellos as she was headed to class while he was headed back out or to class himself. He and Christian got on well together. They both loved to shoot pool and check out the ladies. What more can you expect from a couple college guys? They were frequently out late into the night. Christian knew everyone and all the right places to go. While walking back to the dorm one night, Christian came right out and asked, “So, what do you think of my sister?” Stunned by the sudden topic change, “Well, she seems pleasant enough.” “Pleasant? Come on, I’m her brother. You looked at her as though she were a bit more than pleasant.” “I’ve only chatted with her for a few moments. She seemed to have a ‘pleasant’ personality. She’s definitely easy on the eyes.” Chuckling, “She’s interested, and not currently seeing anyone. You should ask her out.” “Just what makes you think I’m interested?” “Come on! I see how you look at her. She’s my sister. If you don’t ask her out, I’ll be offended. Then I’ll have to kick your butt for looking at her that way for no reason.” “HA! Kick my butt?” “Just do it. I know you want to.” Kailani was sitting at the chess table when they walked in. She hadn’t even seen him, but she heard he and Christian laughing. She turned their direction and her eyes locked with his. “Hey, long time no see, sis.” “Yeah, I know. You’ve got a new friend and never want to hang with me anymore,” Kailani replied as she stuck out her bottom lip. “Can’t mack on the ladies with your sister at your side,” he chuckled. “Well, Balraj, good luck, and I’ll catch up with you later, Kailani. I’m going to get to work on my term paper.” Balraj watched Christian walk away then turned to Kailani. She looked up at him through her thick, smoky lashes. He took a deep breath and with that thick throaty voice of his, “Would you like to go out sometime, Kailani?” “Excuse me,” she said stunned. “You know, you – me, a date.” “Um, yes sure.” Not wanting to sound desperate, “I’m free Saturday.” Not caring how he sounded, “How about now?” Kailani jumped up quickly, probably a little too quickly as she nearly fell forward, “Yes, now would be fine as well. Let me go freshen up, change clothes.” “Now or never sweets, just as you are.” Somewhat shocked, “Oh, okay.”
“This is going to be a mini-date.” “I’m sorry?” “I have class in a short while and I’ve already missed, well, one too many. So, if we can’t get along in private without putting on airs and wondering what everyone may think, then we shouldn’t even give it a go at all.” Slightly confused she responded, “That’s one way to look at it, I suppose. Or it could just be that you’re either cheap or have several other girlfriends out there that you don’t want to put off.” Balraj chuckled, “Believe me, money is not a problem, nor are any other girlfriends . . . They’re all still in my hometown.” Kailani responded with a punch to his arm. “That’s how you’re going to play it, huh?” He grabbed her and started tickling. She started to giggle incessantly. Her laugh was so contagious he began to laugh right along with her, especially when she tickled him back. He realized there was no better moment than now. His arm slid around her waist, pulled her close, and his smiling mouth met hers. Kailani was stunned by the action, though enticed at the same time. Her mouth parted beneath his lips to deepen the kiss. Balraj slowly pulled away, his eyes smiling down at hers. “You look at me as though you’ve never been kissed before.” “Well, I thought I had been, though, you made it feel like the first time.” Balraj grinned deeply at that. “Well, Kailani, how I do hate to end the date short, but I do need to make it to class on time today.” “That’s fine. I understand.” Balraj bent and kissed her softly on the cheek. “We’ll do it again?” “Yes, we will.” “Soon. I’ll take you out to dinner.” “That’ll be nice.” She watched him walk away, her heart still pounding in her chest.
Kailani was finishing an assignment when Christian entered the cafeteria, pizza in hand. “Mmmm, sustenance, that smells wonderful, Christian.” “Thought you’d enjoy it,” he said as he served her a piece and sat down across from her. “How’s Balraj?” he asked with a twinkle in his eye. “For goodness sake, Chris, we spent maybe a half hour together before he left for class.” “You are interested in him, aren’t you? I kind of encouraged him asking you out.” Rolling her eyes, “You encouraged him?” “Well, my ‘Spidey’ sense said he wanted to ask me if you were dating anyone; so, I brought it up and said you were interested and he should ask you out.” “You always know me best. I am attracted to him, no doubt. I just don’t know if I want anything serious. There’s so much I want to do. We were lucky that Mom didn’t care for a career after having Reeve and us. I want that career though. Then family, maybe.” “Kay, you’ll learn one day that people are more important than careers and things.” “I know that. There’s nothing wrong with having goals and dreams.” “Okay. Enough. I checked out other housing today. I found one I like. Interested in checking it out?” “I trust your judgment. If you like it, we’ll take it.” “You sure?” “Yep, I’m sick of this dorm. I like having a cook; however, I’m annoyed with everyone else.” “EVERYone else?” “Okay, not EVERYone else, just most everyone.” Just then Balraj walked in. “Hey, guys. Looks you’re working hard on your term paper Christian.” “Heck, it’s finished. Have some pizza.” “Don’t mind if I do, thanks.” He grabbed a couple slices and plopped down beside Kailani. “I really need to start making my classes. I was lost today. I don’t know how you do it, Christian. Out all the time, making it to class, assignments, term papers.” Kailani chuckled, “Believe me, you’ll get the hang of it. You should have seen the nerd Christian was when we first started. He’s loosened up quite a bit.” “Yes, well, Kay, at least I did loosen up. You’re still a nerd.” With that Kailani slung a chunk of pepperoni at her brother. “We’ll be having none of that, Kay,” Christian chuckled. “Balraj, I don’t know if you’d be interested, but Kay and I are looking into moving into a rental home instead of staying here at the dorm. The one I looked at today only has two bedrooms, but the price is right and I liked the layout. So, if you don’t mind sharing with me, you’re more than welcome.” Balraj looked at Kailani, as if asking her approval, “If that’s okay with both of you, I’m interested.” “I really think it’s a bad idea, Chris. We barely know him. You really should have talked to me first about this.” Balraj looked at her questioningly, she then began to giggle. “I’m kidding, you goon,” as she poked his side. “That’s settled then. I’m outta here. Gotta hot date with my little red head.” They said their goodbyes and Balraj turned to Kailani. “I got your little note thanking me for the nice time earlier today. That was sweet.” “I was bored; so, I just decided to leave you a reminder that you owe me a real date.” “Coming right up, if you’re not too busy.” “Nope, not busy at all.” “Well, then, get your butt ready. We’re going dancing.”
It wasn’t long before Kailani emerged from her room ready to go. Balraj looked at her in amazement. She took his breath away. She’d freshened up her make-up and changed into a short purple dress that complimented both her complexion and her eyes. When she drew near, her perfume filled his senses. She smiled seemingly aware of her affect on him. She asked, “You ready?” “Sure am, and the taxi is waiting.” During the ride to the club, they chatted about their future, i.e., hopes, expectations, and what they wanted out of life. Kailani was happy to hear that Balraj didn’t seem to want to settle down any time soon. He was interested in all sorts of adventures. Liked to go new places and try new things. Someone like that wouldn’t want any children to hold them back. Just the way she liked it. After all, she had hopes and dreams of becoming a big star herself. She wanted to see her name in lights, Broadway, theaters, didn’t matter. She’d take either. When they arrived at the club, Balraj opened her door and helped her out. Once out, he didn't let go of her hand. They walked in and directly onto the dance floor. They laughed and danced a few fast paced songs and then the DJ slowed it down. Balraj pulled her close and she rested her head on his chest. She could hear his heart beating wildly. She gazed up into his eyes and he lowered his lips to hers and kissed her tenderly. After the song was over, the dance music began again. Balraj pulled her off the dance floor and bought them a drink at the bar. “Balraj, let’s get our picture taken together.” He smiled and nodded his head in agreement.
The photo booth was in a dark secluded part of the club. They stepped inside and took a few silly pictures. During one shot Kailani didn’t know what exactly came over her, she looked directly in his eyes, placed her hands on his face, and pulled his lips to hers. “Kailani . . .,” Balraj sighed deeply. “Yes,” was all she said and all he needed to hear. Their lips met again, tender at first then with a fierce passion that neither had felt before. His hands cupped her face then traced the lines of her neck, around her shoulders, and down her back to draw her as close as he could. Their bodies were completely touching and they could feel each other’s heat. Okay, don’t want to go into that any further, I know there are younguns’ here. Plain and simple version . . . Woohoo in the photobooth . . . I was having a difficult time trying to make that romantic in any way anyhow. On with the show . . . As if suddenly realizing where they were and what happened, Kailani hurriedly collected herself and ran out of the booth and out of the club. Balraj ran after her. Once outside he called a taxi and pulled her close to him. She began to sob softly against his chest. “What’s wrong?” “I’m so sorry Balraj. I’d never . . . you know . . . ‘til just now and . . .” “Kailani,” Balraj pulled her to him as close as he could and spoke softly as he nuzzled her head, “why didn’t you say? I would have stopped.” Kailani wiped her eyes and looked up at him. She kissed him softly. “I didn’t want you to stop. I’m more embarrassed than anything. It seemed that everyone knew what we did in there.” “Well, I’m not going to lie, I’m pretty sure they knew,” he chuckled. “Thanks, that makes me feel much better,” she managed through her sniffles. The taxi then arrived and took them back to the dorm. During the ride home, he held her tightly against him. When they arrived at the back at the dorm, He walked her to her door and pulled her against him so he could drink her in and kissed her softly on the lips. “Until morning, my dear.” Kailani’s eyes twinkled and she smiled, “Yes, until morning.” She blew him a kiss and expired to her room. Once inside, she changed her clothes and went to sleep peacefully dreaming of Balraj and the events of the evening.
