A Sad Day In My Game

My favorite sim, Napoleon, had moved into his girlfriend's trailer to help her raise their daughter, Bella. I started noticing that Napoleon was a wonderful, doting father, and that Bella's mother was lazy and afraid of changing diapers and just did not care about being a mother at all. I came upon a plan for a story-line. Napoleon, town playboy, would become dutiful single dad. Little Bella would be pampered and treated like a princess, get the best of everything. Mom had an unfortunate bool-prop accident. (I never played her anyway, I just let Napoleon get her pregnant in a photo booth to see if it was as fertile for him as the changing booths) 1st things 1st--they needed a better place to live.

So, I built them a nice mansion, and decorated it for Christmas. It took me two hours of gametime. I moved them in, and then had Napoleon invite over some friends for a housewarming party. I even brought over some children Bella's age so she could make friends. I had Bella go to the piano and play while everyone was coming in, and had Napoleon build a fire in the living room. Napoleon caught fire!!! I couldn't get Bella's piano playing cancelled fast enough for her to plead with Grimmy for her Daddy's life.

So, continuing with my "No quit without saving" rule, Bella became an orphan, and Napoleon is no more. I had my nice sim-self family adopt Bella. (sniff, sob, wail! Why is life so cruel!) :(

Oh that is so sad! Are you going to have him resurrected or let him rest in peace?

Aw shucks that's a bummer. Please make sure to have smoke alarms in every room with a fire hazard ... and those fireplaces frankly need sprinklers

sorry to hear! just one question though, i think i'm an idiot for not figuring this out during the entire year i've owned the sims, but how can somebody else adobt a child from another family that has already been taken from the social worker? how did i skip this?

Oh gosh, I hate the fireplaces! None of mine have ever been lighted without starting a fire, so I generally just put them in and never light them.

    Sorry for your loss. :(

Personally I've never had a fireplace fire. Well not in TS2 anyway, I only had one in TS1.

To answer Cheeseygrins question if no one else has yet. When a child is taken by the social worker he/she is put in a list of children so that the next child of that age group will be the one taken. They will be adopted out in the same order the social worker took them until they run out of user made children then the game will generate them.

SO if you have five children taken by different families you can have all five adopted by one person. Then have that person move in with the different families and move out again leaving the right child back with the original family. The only problem with this is that on the child's family tree it will have listed the adoptive parent instead of the birth parents.

I have never had a fire started with a fireplace with TS2. I guess it comes with too many of my families being poor. LOL I knew it could happen, but I just didn't think it would happen then. :( Nope, I didn't get a chance to snap any pictures. Everything happened so fast! But, resurecting him? Humm, I hadn't thought about that. "Young Bella, driven by the traumatic events of her childhood, studies parnormal activity, and learns the secrets to raising the dead." Humm, sounds like a story to me. ;)

I'm not sure this is true. Won't the child feel abandoned? Isn't the person who actually adopted them the new parent, not the people they were dropped on? I think the only way there would be a connection to the new people, even if if they are the birth parents, is if you had two parents living separately and decided to give custody to the dad instead of the mom. You know, move mom and kid in with dad, then move mom out, or leave her there.

Since the kid really is the dad's kid it would have a connection with both.

In the case of adoption, their little minds are wiped and the person who adopted them is their new parent. I had sims adopted by their adult brother after they were taken by the social worker, and as far as they were concerned he was their dad now and their moms were their grandmothers. (Same sex couple ... so sad, couldn't adopt, so I had one of them cheat LOL.)

If their dad had then abandoned them with their grandmothers it might have been OK, since they're still family, but in most cases I don't think the kids would like that very much.

It doesn't bother them if you maintain a high relationship score between the birth parents and the children. The only frustrating thing, as I said, is that the adoptive parents are listed as the parent's instead of the birth parents. I had three kids taken away from one family because of low grades. That didn't fit with my story line so I invented Auntie Grace who adopted the children. She kept them long enough to get everyone's age up to where they should be and the school age children at A+ then she moved in with the birth parents, who had a fourth child in the mean time, then she moved out. You can use Simpe though to change the relationships can't you? I've never used it but I thought someone said that you could. But anyway my story is back on track. LOL

If you have the insiminator you can also spawn the "family tree". It gives you options to add/remove parents, make my sibling, make my spouse, make my child, etc... But unless you have a family with the same last name adopt them, then I believe they are stuck with their new last name as well.
