I'm planning on going, with the boyfriend's mother. She's a big C.S. Lewis fan as well.

I started reading the series in like 4th grade but I stopped when I got to the Silver Chair just because I'd, well, lost interest. :( But The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe has always been my favorite out of the series. I plan on watching it ASAP!

I read a book by C.S. Lewis once a long time ago. It was not part of the Narnia series. I found that, in this book I read, he had a rather low opinion of women, that we are childlike and vain. Give a woman a mirror and the devil will gain control of her or some such nonsense as that. I was quite appalled by the book and have not read another thing written by that man. I notice that this movie and this Narnia story include a witch, so I have my suspicions. I will not see the movie.

Interesting. I hate sexism. Still, traditionally women are witches. I understand totally why you won't go and see this one.

I would like to see it, looks quite cool.

It also includes 4 children, two boys, two girls, who become the kings and queens of Narnia, who are remarkably portrayed as equals (ie. the kings don't outrank the queens). I would suggest reading this book, much different than most of his works. I remember reading it in 4th grade.

I loved the Narnia books growing up, and introduced a whole generation of 3rd and 4th grade girls to the series when I was a summer camp counselor...(How else was I going to get any sleep unless I'd first lulled THEM to sleep by reading to them after Lights Out???)

I am planning on seeing the movie Saturday. Can't wait!

And Lynet, I also agree with Jupitershana - Give the Narnia series a chance...I think you will be find them charming...Especially the first few.

Honestly, I don't think CS Lewis had a low opinion of women, but instead a very high opinion of the mythic constructs of yore. So, his "witch" character had to be a woman. I digress, though. I WILL be seeing this, with my kids, who have all had the entire series read to them.

I think it's also the classification as well.

    Witches are women with magic
    Wizards are men with magic.
