In the hospital again... Wondering where I was this weekend? Welllet me tell you the story of what happened this time. Thursday I woke up with a dull pain in my right side, figured I slept wrong. On Friday it was still there, but every hour or so a sharp pain went along with it. I called one of those on call nurses to see if she thought I should see a Dr. or just write it off as a pulled muscle. She suggested I go to the ER. So I made an appointment for urgent care after I got off work at 5:45pm. She felt my side and after running several blood tests decided I should go over to St. Johns in Maplewood MN to get a CT done on my abdomen. At 9:30pm, after the CT, I get the wordI have appendicitisIm going to have surgery. Ive never had surgery before in my whole life, and Im alone in the hospital as I figured it would be nothing. Called Brandon, he cant even come see me before the surgery because he works 3rd shift and since he just started the job hed get fired if he didnt go. I knew that, not upset about that situation, but it still sucked. So then I called my mom, she freaked out and of course drove into town to see me. By the time she got there at 10:30 I was getting myself admitted to the hospitalsurgery was going to be in 20 minuteshowever it got pushed back till midnight because an emergency C-section needed to be done. The surgery was supposed to last an hour, plus 15 minutes on each side for prep and then stitching me back up. Instead it took an hour, because along with my appendix being inflamed, there was something else called a diverticulum (spelling on that?) Basically its a remnant of my umbilical cord from when I was in uterus. 2% of the population still have it, and if it becomes inflamed it mimics appendicitis. So they removed that as well. Woke up at 2amsort ofstayed in the hospital till Sunday afternoon. Today I barely stayed awakeI made it a whole two hours at one point before going back to sleep. My big accomplishment was taking a shower all by myself! Could I plan this any better with the holidays? On Thanksgiving I end up in the hospital because I couldnt breathe now Im so not getting any of my Christmas shopping done because I got appendicitis! Ive never been hospitalized before in my life and this past month its happened twicewhat theanyway I just wanted to update all of you, I wont be around too much this week.
OMG! I had appendicitis when I was 10, on the verge of peritonitis. As soon as you mentioned the right side I clocked. Believe me, you'll be fine. Two days after my op, I was spinning around n my hospital bed. I was a very strange child. So sorry to hear about this though. And especially over Crimbo! Dear, dear. You're in the wars a bit, aren't you? I really feel sorry for you. Get well soon, Shana! PS While I was away I discovered I was allergic to cats. Thought I'd tell you 'cos you luv em so much.
Get well soon! My Aunt had to get surgery last summer because her knees are really bad, and I have the same problem, though less serious. :(
Oh, Dear Shana. Sorry to hear about this new problem. Get well soon. My son had appendicitis earlier this year. My daughter had it a few years ago. I know how painful it is and that it takes awhile before you feel normal again. Take it easy. Sleep is good.
nope, no antibiotics....just percocet...which is fun. Are those little green bears dancing in the corner! Oh.... Just kidding...I'm not that loopy, still quite painful though and I can't sit for more than 3 minutes at a time. So I'm back off to bed. Thanks everyone for all your well wishes.
Hope you feel better for Christmas I've had 2 friends who have had appendicitis and they recovered pretty quickly. But wow, 2 times in hospital this month? Aww :( I had 3 operations by the time I was 12. I'm not an ill person, just extremely unlucky lol. The first one I had my tonsils taken out when I was 5
I've still got my tonsils. Almost everyone else I know doesn't. Perhaps keeping you tonsils is the secret to brains and beauty... Shana, how do you feel after your sleep? That's the time when you will heal the most, so you're on the right track.
Oh, Shana!! Honey, I'm glad that they were able to get you taken care of, and I'm sorry that it was such a bad experience and that you are still not feeling well. Hopefully you'll bounce back and at least get some of your strength back by Christmas. Babe, I still have my tonsils, too. And I am smart and beautiful! (that sound you hear in the distance is the lighting bolt searing my rear end for telling fibs!)
I tell you now, that lightning bolt is a pest. It's been at my house every day this week! Not for me though. For my Mum.
Oh my bad! I really sympathise with you shana. My own appendix waited until I was 45 to let go. I spent 24 hours assuming that my discomfort was gas (or <ahem> something more solid and immovable) before realising that I was running a high fever. Sadly as I was living in a third world country at the time (Great [Sic] Britain) the best diagnostic procedure available involved rubber gloves ... oh how I fantasised about the luxury of going thru the the magic donut. It was during a very hot summer and, with the concerns of the taxpayer uppermost in their minds the hospital authorities had skimped on the air-conditioning. There wasn't any. Luckily the budget ran to a couple of electric Taiwanese fans which successfully kept my temperature under control. After 24 hours of IM antibiotics I had surgery, which left a very neat scar that is now barely visible ... if only the rest of me was worth showing off I was back home two days after surgery feeling quite perky ... although it was several weeks before I felt fully prepared to take on anything as strenuous as changing a duvet cover. So, Shana. Take it easy and enjoy your recuperation as a free holiday. I took three weeks sick leave but (honestly) could've resumed my normal admittedly light duties after two weeks.
We thought it was KFC. I was also given some 'medicine' for the solid thingy, which tasted so naff, and the I was sent outside for some air which made me throw up.
Are you kidding? I live off the stuff! You know, when we wnt to SA we were supposed to sample local food etc, and I was buzzing when I saw the KFC! Wimpy is really big over there though.
Shana, I'm so sorry....... but so glad you caught it in time. don't stress about shopping this year. people will understand.
yeah, I've decided gift cards for everyone this year. That way I can send Brandon to do then shopping and not worry about what he picks out! Who knows, by Friday I might feel up to going out for an hour or so. Right now my biggest concern is what I'd wear. I've been wearing nightgowns and oversized t-shirts since I had surgery because of where the incision is. Jeans are out of the question.
When I had my appendix out the doctor snipped it, and then lost it. Yes. They lost it. Inside of me. A 45 minute procedure turned into a 2 hour scramble not to sew up a rotting chunk of myself into me. They had to reopen me twice, my scar is a almost a foot long. :( I was out of commission for over a week afterwards. It sucked. And hurt. :(
Rowan!! No! I hope you sued the bungling butterfingered jerk! I would have! Er ... any chance you could lend me a few thousand?
I did not sue, but neither was I charged a dime for my week long convelescence. The hosptial comped it, and even let me play the Nintendo 64 that was supposed to be in the Peds wing. Zelda was fun.
