I Finally Got A New Job!! Woo Hoo!!

I'm up very early this morning because it finally hit me at 4:30 am that I have to give my notice today, and I felt this wave of joy mixed with terror. LOL I'm wondering how normal this is.

Remember the Training Coordinator's position I interviewed for before Christmas? Well, last week they had told me they had hired internally, but could they keep my resume, yadda-yadda. I just figured it was all over, and forgot about it. Thursday night while I was shopping at the grocery store of all places, I got a call back from them on my cell. They had made a position for me, really like me, really want me to come to work for them. :) I had a meeting with them yesterday evening for the formal job offer and the Salary Negotiations. I'm getting more than I'm making now, plus better benefits than Hubby gets at the hospital. :D And I won't be in social services anymore!! No more teaching parenting classes to drug addicts and child beaters!! No more having to go on local news and talk about positive discipline and then have all eyes on me at Wal-Mart when my own kids act up and I blow a gasket! And no more working someplace at a desk all day long with no one to talk to. And, no more having to deal with the very strooonnnngggg personalities on my staff who think that 1) they are my mothers, 2) they've been there for 13 years, what right do I have to tell them what to do, and 3) my job there is to do the paperwork, process their paycheck, and be at their beck and call (They are angry if they call the office and get my voice mail and accuse me of taking off, even if I'm on the other line talking to, oh, Family Court, or worse yet, in the bathroom!).

Now, the terror. February is a very busy month for us. We are starting a new round of Parenting Classes and visits to Pre-K Schools. I am expected to begin my new job Feb. 6th. We had a staff member resign over the Christmas Holiday with no notice. I came back to work to find her work materials stacked in my chair and her resignation letter taped to my desk. So, we're already short staffed. And now, they're loosing their DIRECTOR too! Frankly, I'm a little intimidated by the two "little ladies" on my staff. I have to go into a staff meeting today that I had scheduled to plan the upcoming events, and tell them that I am not going to be there, they are going to have to be responsible for the event and break in two new staff members. My little ladies freak out when the State changes the paperwork we use for reporting. I'm going to be lucky to survive that staff meeting. LOL

It was bad timing for me to leave, and I feel guilty. But, I've been looking for greener pastures for a year, and I finally found it. Hubby told me after I woke him up tossing and turning around 5 am, "Honey, it's not your problem anymore." But I feel like it is. I've been responsible for my program for 4 1/2 years, and I can't just give up the responsible feeling overnight. I even went in to the office occasionally while I was on my maternity leave. That's how much of a control freak I am. It's hard to realize that I am going to hate giving up my job, and am worried about the program after I go. But, as Hubby said, if it will make me less miserable, then it's the right decision.

Congratulations! :D :D :D That's so wonderful. Try not to feel guilty about leaving -- sounds like they (current employers) are the ones who should be feeling guilty about driving people so batty that they quit.

I agree with Lynet, and congrats! It's wonderful that you're moving on to greener pastures! It might be hard during those few weeks before you leave your old job, but it will all be worth it in the end.

Congratulations and the best of luck with your new job! The people at your current job will manage. It may be rough, but they'll have to either sink or swim--it's up to them. It's natural to feel a little guilty for putting them in that situation, but you have to do what's best for you. If they can't understand that, then s***w 'em.

    Way to go, Kristal!

I'm happy for you. Nothing worse than having a job you dread going to every day.

Hey, it's time to celebrate! Have a beer for me, since NC is a bit far of a drive ... :p

    Thanks, y'all. :)

I hired my replacement today. She's very, umm, different. She has a much more aggressive, down-to-business style. I know one employee with love her, and the rest will want to kill her. LMAO. She starts Monday and will work with me all week, so I won't be on any during the day unless I send her off to pick up our lunch. hehehehe "You, new girl, go do my bidding!" :D Yeah, I'm just waiting for her to go through my files and find all my mistakes. She seems like the kind who would look for that. :(

Oh, well, it's all hers. When I was talking to her today, I was talking about my office and my desk and my blah blah blah, and then it hit me, and I apologized and said, "In a week, I'll be gone and it will be all yours." :(

I'm not resting well. I woke up last night at 2, was up after 3:30 thinking of interviewing someone and getting them trained and how they would do my job. It finally hit me that I have been so miserable for so long that I don't know how to give it up. It's my misery, and I felt safe with it. My new job will be fun, and I don't know how to work somewhere fun. :( I've worked in Social Services, one job at a domestic violence shelter, and two positions in parent education agencies working with "high risk" parents. Every day I heard sad stories and helped people deal with drama and disfunction. I don't know how to work somewhere else, and I think I'm terrified.

Maybe I need my own social worker? LMAO

That's what I went to school for...and I'm working in a customer service job...go figure. However there is an opening in my department soon for a trainer position, I'm going to go for that. It would mean a salaried position, working probably about 50 hours a week, but the pay increase would be nice!
