Placing objects on 45 degree angle

I have read a trhead about a cheat that enables one to put objects like sofas and beds at a 45 degree angle. I also know the cheat: boolProp allow45degreeAngleOfRotation true/false. Nothing happens! What do I have to do?

When you are holding the object, press the ">" (period) or "<" (comma) key on your keyboard to rotate the object. But the cheat needs to be on: boolprop allow45DegreeAngleOfRotation true

I was playing around with building mode and decided to try the angled foundation which I'd never used before. I used it for the entire foundation of a room. Now all the walls are angled and you can't even hang a smoke detector on them. :p The big TV fits nice across the corner, though. All the furniture is now crooked. I love it. I think I'll move elves into this house. ;)

(p.s. I put a little piece of straight wall in to hold the smoke detector and burglar alarm. )

You need University for the cheat to work.

I have both Uni and NL. I also know about the < and > buttons. I dont know how a keyboard looks like in the US but the comma and period buttons are not the same as < and >. I use SHIFT+> and CTRL+>. Nothing. any other buttons I should try?

I'm attaching a couple. Actually, I did move three butterfly girls into the lot but decided I wouldn't picture them here. Although they are covered up as much as any sim bathing suit it may not look like it from some angles and I didn't want to get the moderators nervous. :p

And you say you can't design houses ... that's a fun little place! I love the "compound" feeling of the lot ... they need a fence with a secret gated entrance. :D

Don't press shift or control. Just try the left and right carots ('<' and '>').

I really like the way the layout looks, with the stairs and furniture appearing diagonal. The only thing that keeps me from designing houses that way, is I really don't like the way the roof comes out. Oh, how I long for diagonal roofs...

Yup, the roof on my diagonal room looked strange but I decided that it was OK because the whole place is a home for strange sims. There's a separate building for each bedroom, the kitchen/dining room, the showers. The toilets are in a separate building from the showers. I was just doodling with different types of wall and floor coverings.

Anyway, the diagnoal building was the most interesting to work with, since you can't hang most things on the walls. Windows and doors work OK.

    Ah!
I finally did it. Its soo simple. I just select the item, then hit , or ., and it works. I dont even have to use the cheat.
But I still cant build diagonal connecting stairs.

It really is a shame that we were not given diagonal roofs and half-landings for those connecting stairs ... but not even I thought about having diagonal stairs  (I did actually but now I am just jealous of Jake for having the courage to admit his weakness for insatiable desires of the sim kind :p )

That's cool. Now, my question is: Can the sims use the objects that are placed diagonally? I have always wanted to put TV's diagonally in the corner and then have a chair or a sofa opposite, but wasn't sure if they could actually use them.

Most seating can be sat on (not sure about for dining ... not tried it). The guitar and bass can be used diagonally but not the drum kit ... least not in the room I tried it in. TV's cannot be watched when diagonally placed tho' :(

The diagonal roofs and stairs and the like would be nice to have. Have you put them in the "Suggest an Idea" section of the official BBS? That's where the Maxoids go to search out ideas to put into the EPs.

Some things work, some things work partially and some things don't work. It's a good idea to try it out. (If it doesn't work, you can always go back into buy/build and remove it.)

For example, diagonally placed sofas work but will only hold 2 people at a time (rather than the usual 3) and Sims can walk right through parts of it (which is a hoot to see.) And when a Sim sitting on one end gets up, it's like they suddenly slide to the other end and then get up. Very weird.

I've put the smaller TVs (not the wall ones) on the diagonal in some of my smaller houses. They seemed to work fine.
