Task Manager--End Process Hi everyone. I have a quick question. There are lots of things running when I open up my task manager, and I was wondering what I absolutely SHOULD NOT close, and if there is anything I can "end process" before running my game (in the hopes that it will run a little faster). Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Before you try all of this it might be safer the create a restore point. (Start, All Programs, Accessories, System Tools, System Restore and select the 'Create a restore point' option. Nothing you close in task manager should destroy windows as it all starts up again when you restart. Perhaps msconfig would work better? (Start, run, type msconfig) Go to the Services tab and click the box next to 'Hide all Microsoft Services'. Uncheck all the boxes next to things you don't need. If you turn off something that you need, you can always go back and recheck it again. Next go to the Startup tab and again turn off anything you don't need, anything that says 'C:\WINDOWS\(something)' or 'RUNDLL32.EXE' don't turn off (even if you do it won't kill your computer). Click apply, close and restart. You can even try services.msc (Start, run, type services.msc) Turn off anything you want here as well by right clicking the service, selecting properties and selecting 'disable' or 'manual'. Manual will start the service only when it's needed and is perhaps a safer option. Close the window and restart. As for Task Manager anything under your username should be safe to end. Don't end 'explorer.exe' or 'taskmgr.exe'. Once you're in the game you can end 'explorer.exe' and restarting after you've finished playing the game will bring it back. 'explorer.exe' is your desktop and task bar if you don't notice when you end it.
