1Up Editor's Thoughts on Societies; Interviews Rod Humble 1Up.com has posted up a editors video commentary on SimCity Societies. The video is about 9 minutes long. The editor's commentary is quite interesting, including their insight on the game on how it's a hybrid of The Sims and SimCity. SimsVille anybody? There is also three short excerpts in the interview with Rod Humble. "We thought that SimCity 4, was a brilliantly executed point of the simulation track of playing, and it really nailed all those physical attributes and we were sort of fearful that any design we did might start veering back toward that territory and we definitely wanted to do something different, and so placing it with an experienced different developer made a lot of sense and it was a lot of fun as well. We whole heartily agree that it's a very new direction and it's very risky. And I find that exciting and just as a game maker, I like to do that kind of things, like wow, thank goodness, you aren't doing the same things every year after another. If our SimCity player-base don't like it, for sure, they can expect the next iteration to be back to basics, I can assure you. This could end up being a separate fork, and we could end up doing a SimCity Societies line in addition to a regular [SimCity]. These things are really about finding an audience. Other interesting facts is that the developers are thinking about custom content. You can see the video here. Viewer Discretion: Profanity in Video.
