A New Dorm & Basements 101 I ahve been busy. First concerning basements. It seems that some players want to place items like toilets on the inside of basement walls and down know how. (I have seen requests for hacks and also found a hack that does the trick. However none of that is needed. Basements are easy. You can even have doors and windows! Here's how (It is an album on the exchange. It's called The Demmo family ) Second. Dorms. I love ijRoberts creations, but I find his building far too grand for my tastes (and also for my patience inscrolling around.) I also dislike having to change floors in search of a sim to control/interact with. So I made a fairly luxurious 7 room dorm (comfy beds, 5x5 bedrooms etc.) A sim getting A's should have no trouble in getting thru college in this dorm without ever having to leave (except to go to class ) unless they want to go shopping, of course. The lot has no hacks (or custom content of any kind). It has been played and tested. View/Download it at the exchange here There is a separate album that forms a walk-thru of the dorm. Also at the exchange here
Thank you for the compliment Mirelly! But, to be honest, I'm finding my dorm a little too extravagant as well, lol! I'll give yours a spin!! =) I'm finding that I really like the one floor buildings as well, since sometimes there can be great lag in going from floor to floor. I'll probably use your dorm as inspriation for a smaller, more low key dorm of my own! =)
I shall look forward to seeing what you come up with ij. If you are interested here are some nuggets I have gleaned thru experience. 1) Site cafeteria serveries well away from any library. 2) Provide 2-3 times as many dining chairs as there are rooms (Students tend to leave half done assignments laying around) 3) Ideal bedroom size is 5x5 - room for a musical instrument (or double bed ) 4) The only gym equipment needed is one treadmill (it's the most fun anyway) I am still meaning to design anohter, grander, more european looking, dorm. Still single storey, but with a high vaulted communal areas ... maybe like a sort of converted chapel. I'll post back if I like what I've done.
Sorry to resurrect an older thread... I started creating a dorm as a community property... How can I change it to a dorm?
changelotzoning [dorm][community][residential] NEW HINT:- If you have NL place a dining table ornament or lamp on every cafeteria table to prevent students from using them for assignments.
so I do control/alt/c then type: changelotzoning [dorm] and I do this in city view or with the lot in question open? and I include the brackets? sorry to sound so lame. of course if I had just opened your demmo family in the first place I would have to be asking these lame questions.
Ctrl + Shift + C & type in changelotzoning dorm You do this in the lot view and have to save back to neighborhood and reload for the change to take effect. I usually build dorms as residential lots and then change them to community lots Ctrl + Shift + C & type in changelotzoning community to add things not available in residential lots (eg male urinals ... for some reason those things really crack me up ) then change to a dorm when finished.
