Ack! Anyone else having problems with Windows Update?

It downloaded a driver for my video card (GeForce 4 MX 420), but every time I try to install it, I get the following error message:

Windows could not load the installer for Display. Contact your hardware vendor for assistance.

The problem with this: this computer has been out of warranty for a year and a few months now. Guess I'm emailing nVidia...

Has this happened to anyone else?

Got what? The computer..? The computer itself is a Dell Dimension 4550, 2.0 GHz, 400 MHz FSB.

There is a story behind this...

Okay, the day before TS2 came out, I went to nvidia.com and downloaded the proper driver for my card. Now, two months later, Windows Update downloaded the same driver (I think. Go figure..) and I can't install it, it refuses to. I can't delete it, I haven't any idea where the file is stored.

Actually... do not download ANY nVIDIA drivers from Microsoft... I successfully downloaded it... but then it just wacked up my computer... trust me on this... the drivers that came with your computer are fine... don't update them.

That's why you download from nVidia directly and not Microsoft :)

    Yes.
Microsoft's Updates for nVidia drivers completely screwed up my computer and I was forced to rebuild it.
I agree with ManagerJosh - it's best not to trust Microsoft.

Which is why I have dubbed most of their products "Microcrap." :p

I love Macs. Don't have one, but want one. :)

Oh oh, never change a running system ;) I never update my windows, its working fine for me, so who cares about updates?

But that GraCa problem is weird. I had the same MX and no problems, except its weakness in connection with the sims 2 and other modern games.

    Sorry, i couldnt help ;)
