Can't get the .exe file to run!!! I searched for a similar problem on here and can't find one, so I apologize in advance if I'm repeating a thread. I've been happily playing SIMS 2 Seasons for over a month now and just yesterday when I put the disk in to play it, I get an error saying: "A problem occurred when trying to transfer the file 'H:\AutoRun.exe' from the media" I'm not quite sure what to do to troubleshoot at this point. I've had no problem up until now and I haven't changed any sort of settings in the game or on my computer. I've checked my comp specs and they FAR EXCEED the requirements, and again, this is brand new. I've been playing the SIMS 2 ever since it came out and never had a problem with any expansion pack. Please help if you can. I'd greatly appreciate it!!
Sounds like a read-Error on your DVD (Fingerprint??) But since your game is already installed, I wouldn't worry about it too much. Just cancel that error message and start the game through the shortcut on your Desktop. (The AutoRun.exe is mainly used to start the installation process) -le
Er ... check that your game disc is clean and not scratched. It sounds like a CD drive issue rather than anything else. Drive H? Is that a virtual drive or do you just have a lot of partitions?
Drive H ? I have a drive H too, but it is a virtual drive. Is that your case too ? Normally when you click "cancel" on that windows warning message saying there's no disc in drive X (where X is the drive letter), the game starts up anyway. Now I don't know if your drive H is a virtual drive, and I don't understand why the game is not starting when you click cancel, but if your H is a virtual drive, here's what you can try: 1- Click on START - RUN, type in "regedit" (w/out the "") and ENTER 2- Now be very carefull handling the registry editor, as it contains vital data for your windows to run normally. 3- go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\EA GAMES\THE SIMS 2 SEASONS (click on the "the sims 2 seasons" folder to preview it in the right frame of the regeditor) 4- Now, you'll see two keys on the right frame called "CD DRIVE" and "INSTALLED FROM". So if your H drive is a virtual one, change the letter on these two keys to the correspondent letter of the physical CD/DVD drive you have on your computer. You change a key value by right clicking on it, then selecting "modify". Don't know if it will be "modify" in your windows version, 'cause this string is shown in the portuguese brazilian version of windows. If it isn't, just pick the option that is in bold. You don't have to edit the drive letter for the original game and other expansions, just the expansion that you're trying to load to play. Wont hurt if you do though, and Monk would certainly apreciate this, 'cause you know... everything matching . Don't know if this will help. If you still can't play, send me an e-mail or PM, and I can help you try, emphasis on "try" (not making any promises), to load this through a virtual drive. I do not use the CD anyway, don't want the P4 toasting the CDs. Just use to install. See ya !!!
