    Changing computers - salvaging Sims

(Apologies to the ever-vigilant WorldSims moderators if this is in the wrong forum - I was unsure of whether it constiututed a 'How do I' or a technology question.)
Hello WorldSimmers! I have wonderful news - my computer is finally dead! A new one is arriving on Thursday or Friday, and it will be able to play the Sims 2, so I won't have to restrict my playing to the odd snatched afternoon on my boyfried's laptop any more! *Glee*

This is all brilliant, but there is one onion in the ointment - I don't want to leave my Sims to certain deletion on my boyfriend's laptop, where they are taking up quite a bit of his hard drive. How do I transfer them, intact (i.e. with their custom clothes, wallpapers and floors; their neighbourhoods, universities, and university educations; their houses, both downloaded and made; their family trees, memories and relationships) to my new computer?

    Things to consider:
    1. The laptop can connect to the internet with a dial-up, but not a Broadband, connection.
    2. My new computer will be able to connect to the internet with a Broadband connection
Things that I have that may be useful:
    • Two MP3 players which can act as little hard drives for transporting data from one computer to the other (this is how I manage to download things for my Sims)
    • A pile of CDRs
    • A geek
    • A legitimate but (so far) unregistered copy of The Sims
    • A legitimate but (so far) unregistered copy of The Sims: University

E-Gad! It fits in both forums! *Gets out sissors* I'm going to cut your post in half! *Snip Snip*
    :D

    Please:
    1. Feed the geek the MP3 Players.
    2. Use the CDR's to transfer the "The Sims 2" or "The Sims 2 University" folder from your "My Documents" folder on the laptop.
    3. Install the game on your new computer :p
    4. Put the folder on your new computer and overwrite the one that is there from instilation.

I'm going to send you over here to http://forums.worldsims.net/showthread.php?t=5368 . I was trying to get my neighborhood copied and onto my laptop so I could bring them with me on vacation. I got lots of good advice, just didn't get a chance to read the good advice before I left on Sunday Morning.

Have I mentioned yet today that I'm going through withdraws, and that it's been SEVEN DAYS since I played??? WAAAAA! LOL

I'm sure they will. Now it's been 8 days! And we're not going home until sunday. Starting to wonder if maybe Mom's computer can run TS2. LOL She has an old HP with an Intel 82810 Graphics Controller, Intel Celeron Processor with 127 MB. It's a sad, sad little computer. LOL But, maybe if I disable, um, all the graphics. . . LMAO

Thanks for being always lovely, Kristal :).

It worked fine in the end - I copied the EA Games folder onto one of the MP3s and put it in my My Documents folder on the (_brilliant_) new computer after installing the program, then renamed the EA Games folder created by the install so the old EA Games folder would be accessed by the program instead of it. And it works with gallons of gleaming glorious goodness, as fast as a very fast thing and benefiting beautifully from my graphics card. So, all in all, :)
