    cross platform challenge

i used to play the sims on my mac years ago and have recentally got a psp to play the sims2 on. it seems a little 'confined' - in saying that i've only been playing for 4 days on the psp.

can anyone tell me if there is any difference between playing on a psp or ps2 and a pc or mac ??

it's an interesting debate and an old one - mac vs ps vs console.

    where do you stand?

I don't actually have experience of both console and pc/mac versions but what I hear indicates that the fullest range of experience (read "challenges") is only ever going to available to the PC user because the PC has, for the time being, the widest possible range of users with the creative & technical skills to modify and add to the game-play experience with extra content and improvements to gameplay.

And ... while I'm on the subject can I thank the Flying Fishman for his soo timely Christmas present in the form of his "More Awesome Than You - Director's Cut Hack Collection" now utterly suitable for Nightlife. (The link is external to World Sims and may contain adult/robust language ... do not visit if you are easily offended ... )

    pc knows best

... yea i think for games like this pc is the best. always let down by the lack of mac developement in this area. i do like the portablilty of the psp though and it is great for travelling, obviously.

i had a look at you link and there are many good hacks there - alas for the pc though. would you know one for the psp - firstly to get the charachters naked.....

    many thanks

    re platform vs PC

I have played the Sims 2 on Xbox (which is quite similar to the PSP) and PC and have come to the conclusion that console players were ripped off. There are so many things that were left out of the console version due to space shortage, but ive also found that if you dont have a great computer which is fast and has a great graphics card -then you dont do justice to the game. With the console games you are gonna get the same sort of graphics no matter what. So in my opinion the PC version is much more exciting i mean i have had the PC version for about a month and im yet to pick up the XBOX to play the sims 2 and you can play it and not get bored but with the console version it tires really quickly.

I played the demo of The Sims 2 for PS2, and that was the worst thing ever. :knockedout: I'm sticking with my PC game, thank you.

Well everything really, except to play the game for you. It gets rid of all the game's little annoyances and provides a little bin of goodies that you can buy for sims to help cure all sorts of problems, from ending the silliness that occurs every time a kids gets an A+ to making it possible to queue orders (eg gotta baby? set change diaper, play, cuddle, feed a bottle, cuddle, bathe, cuddle, put in crib ... you can then forget that an concentrate on getting the rest of the household off to work/school or whatever. The collection is so big that you really need to study the descriptions cos this isn't the place to list them. Most of them are self-explanatorily named so it's quite easy to take out/leave out any that you don't want.

It can do that, too, if you set it up right.

Yep, Macrotastics will do that. Set one sim to Autosocializing, one to skilling, another to cleaning, and another to gardening, and then you can use the potty and get a refill on your soda, and maybe warm up a little snack in the microwave. Come back, and your gardening is done, house is clean, a new skill point or two has been earned, and your sims have a new family friend. ;)

Yeah the only hack that is missing is the one that makes students choose only to do their assignments at an accessible work station. Given a choice between two tables or desks a student will always choose the one that another student is sitting at already doing assignment. They plop their book down on the desk and then go like: wah! who put that sim in my chair? I have this worryingly persistent mental-image of a houseful of students that has been left on College Rampage for too long and every horizontal surface contains a blue assignment folder ...

BTW To avod a new thread and to go so far off topic we might bump into Capn Janeway :p ... Arise Sir Tom ... (Jones) woot! ;)

It seems that due to the wonky way the game implements assignment table usage, an assignment on a table, no matter what the size of the table, manages to hog the entire table. This problem seems to be greatly reduced if you give them only single tables.

The problem of multiple-assignment-spawn everywhere should be nonexistent: A sim is not permitted to create a new assignment until he has consumed all existing assignments. Worst case, he repeatedly attempts unsuccessfully to do that one assignment. Newer versions bias towards research when many sims are about to reduce table collision, and because research has increasing effectiveness with more victims.

Good lord! You mean group research actually helps grades! How many involved and for how long before I might notice a difference? This from a diehard JMP college clock timer (my record is completion of both senior semesters in one day and graduated scl ... no time in that schedule for anything as glacial as research )

LOL I answered my own question  I've never actually considered joint research as anything but an aspiration to be filled when there's nothing else doable that a student wants. Until this afternoon the longest I ever had anyone on research was the length of time it took to qualify the aspiration want  I really ought to pay attention!

I love Tom Jones. It's Not Unusual, She's a Lady, Delilah... all the classics. I even went to one of his concerts once.

    With my Nana.
