    Custom Neighborhood Problems

wow, 1st to post in this section
anyway, has anyone else had problems viewing your custom neighborhood. I used a premade neighborhood and it will barely let me zoom in or out to view more of the map. I'm stuck staring at a small piece of it and it gets really annoying. A lot of the lots I can't even see unless i rotate the camera. Is this how it's supposed to be or is my game messed up?:(

I found that if my neighborhoods were made from land which was higher in elevation that they don't let you see much at all. Also, you only see the center section, not the full 64x64 of the original SC4 lot. It cuts off about 16 of the SC4 squares each. I suspect that what you are seeing is the "normal."

Many people when they made their TS2 neighborhoods with SC4 didn't listen to Maxis when they said that only the center 32x32 would be usable, so they tended to try to have stuff at the edges as well. But the way TS2 views the neighborhoods is "tighter" than many of us (including me) were expecting. (Still, the area it lets me work in has enough room for 70-100 of the largest lots, so I'm *not* complaining.)

There is something that you can do (I believe with one of the function keys, but you may need to use alt with it as well) to see more of the neighborhood, but when I've done it (always accidently, unfortunately) I find that while I can see more, I can't click where I want to click because the cursor doesn't give me that level of control at that distance.

I've gotten used to it over time (since I only use custom neighborhoods). But it certainly is normal not to see the whole thing at once and have to move the camera to get everywhere you might want to go.

There is a game hack that allows you to see the whole of the neighborhood if this is important to you for any reason.

It can be found at ModTheSims2 - On This Page

The 'hack' is a text file called neighborhoodcamera.txt. It replaces the orginal neighborhoodcamera.txt in:

    My Documents\EA Games\The Sims 2\Cameras

If you think you may wish to undo the change at any point you should first rename the orginal neighborhoodcamera.txt to something like originalneighborhoodcamera.txt before moving the new file into the
    My Documents\EA Games\The Sims 2\Cameras folder

Thanks, Mirelly. I've not spent much time in that section of MTS2. (Mostly I look at the objects.;)) But that hack could be very handy.

We just need to remember to replace all the Maxis stuff before we install things like Maxis updates or new EPs.
