European Community in protest!! Sims 2 DVD not in Europe Quote EA pressrelease: This DVD will be available in North America only at the same price as the CD-ROM version read the pressrelease: http://investor.ea.com/phoenix.zhtml?c=88189&p=irol-newsArticle&t=Regular&id=590499& or go to http://thesims2.ea.com/news_dvd.php I am a European Sims-fan and I am a member of a large European Sims-community. I feel obligated to inform you about the things going on in this community. We all heard that The Sims 2 DVD Edition will be released in Noth America only. The European Sims community feels neglected by EA because of this. We didn't get The Sims Online, although I know lots of people who like to play it, and now this! Of course we will be able to buy the 4 CD rom's, but if we are given the opportunity to install The Sims 2 from 1 CD, I for one would rather choose that, as well as a lot of other Sims-fans would. The main questions to EA are: Why will The Sims 2 DVD edition not be released outside of North America, and would you reconsider it? Let EA know what you think: at the buttom of the pressrelease are 2 emailadresses from EA representatives. Or Email EA in your country.
yeah, i really want the sims 2 DVD edition, cause i dont want to use 4 Cd's if i can use 1 dvd with more options for the same price.
I think the big issue is the zone certification. I don't think EA is certified anywhere else except in North America and Canada.
Not certified to bring DVD's on the European market? Is there a difference in bringing CDrom in a market and DVD? Or do you mean something else?
There's not a single problem with the regions on DVDs. It's up to the creator of the DVD if they put the region protection on it or not. Besides, separate DVDs would have to be pressed for the European versions anyway, since the game will be in other languages (US version has only English and Spanish afaik, while the European will have UK English, Dutch, Swedish, German...). So the regions whatsoever is not a problem at all. It's EA UK (Europe) deciding to release it in Europe or not, depending on the market here. Currently I'd say everything's very confusing, with the ComputerAndVideoGames article and the press release contradicting each other. I've contacted EA UK by email yesterday, and am waiting for their reply. I'll keep everybody updated thru my site on that...
This I got several days ago so webmasters are allso waiting for confirmation: From: hikikomori To: Protagonist Posted: Mon Jul 12, 2004 8:20 am Subject: Sims 2 DVD and CDrom release Hi I have a question for you: will the Sims 2 DVD and CDrom be released on the same day in Europe? And if not, how soon after the Sims 2 - CDrom will the Sims 2 - DVD be released in Europe? And will they be the same price? Take care Hiki http://spzone.simparool.com/ ================== From: Protagonist To: hikikomori Posted: Mon Jul 12, 2004 9:58 am Subject: Re: Sims 2 DVD and CDrom release We have no major details about the two seperate releases at the moment, so we're working on the assumption that both will come out on the same day at the same price, however this is only an assumption and needs to be confirmed. _________________ Protagonist Web Producer thesims.uk.ea.com thesims2.uk.ea.com

If Europe gets it then why shouldn't the rest of the world get it? :mads: It will be released everywhere anyway but not when the CD versions of the game come out. People just have to wait.:tired: Does anyone remember that these disks don't just appear? EA has to make them first.
Well I am happy for me, not happy for you... but I dont know why they wont have it for you, they have to have a reason for it
I can't believe they wouldn't think it would be a sound investment to release the DVD version in Europe. From what I understand, there are more DVD ROMs per computer than in North America. People there have picked up the DVD trend more quickly than in North America. It must have something to do with some legal hassle or not having access to DVD manufacturers in Europe.
I think N. America is more like a test dummy... to see if it has a great impact on gaming or not.... it is a much better investment to create just hundreds of DVD Version discs then to put out 1000s that wont be bought!
