    Expansion packs

    Hi,

I have been playing sim 2 for a few months and finally decided to buy the business expansion pack, however when I was about to install the expansaion pack it said that I should back up my current save files as upon installation of the expansion pack I will no be able to go back to the normal sim 2...

My question is will I will able to install other expansaion pack (eg Uni and nightlife) on to of this or will I need to go back to the base sims 2?? DO anyone else have this issue???

    Thanks

    Good question, hunnypooh!

It's all a little complicated I am afraid.

First up is the absolute fact that installing any of the expansion packs will make changes to the saved game files you already have.

    The changes cannot be undone.

The changes are important because they add features that were not present in the original game (extra want slots in University), (attractions in NL), (and business skills in OFB).

The need to make a back up before installing is so that if everything goes wrong during the installation you can easily go back and start over. Once you have the newly upgraded game up and running there's no need to keep the back up if you need the space for another purpose. This is because there ought not to be a need to unistall an expansion pack. If you don't like some of the options and hardly use them then removing them won't make much difference anyway. Uninstalling just means that you would have to go back to an older copy of your saved games anyway. All pretty pointless.

There is a general view that expansion packs are best installed in the order they were published. There's no hard evidence to support this ... mostly it's a geeky gut-instinct. So if you feel it likely that you will want the others anyway and you have the bucks to spare it would be sound advice to get them and install them first. If cash is a problem I wouldn't worry overmuch.

In short. You ought to be able install EPs in any order. EPs are not designed to be uninstalled but that ought not to be a problem.

The advice to make a back up before starting is good sense because installing an EP is a complex process that can (and does) go wrong ... thankfully not often but when it does it's a bummer.
