Our current housemate is a former TSA worker. She said that any facsimile or replica, in any form, is contraband. It should have been caught before that TSA person did so.
I can agree that if it's like a BB gun, an aerosoft gun, paintball gun, or even a physical replica that can be mistaken as a weapon on the plane should yes be banned. I will however disagree if it's a design on an article of clothing or a purse.
If you look at the design, it was not a flat depiction of a gun, but a relief depiction that could have been mistaken for a gun in someone's hand. That's a replica and could cause confusion during a standoff.
