Game Always Crashes (sorry long one) Hi. I had a posting called "Issues with Sims2" and as a follow up I upgraded my graphics card from an Intel Extreme Graphics to an ATI RADEON 9250. When I finished installing it and rebooted the computer I tried to play the Sims2 (CD Version). I got as far as loading a neighborhood (and in the neighborhood the graphics were alot more awesome than they were before.. I could see the rocks in the water and the rainbows and stuff that I never seen before on the game). However, when I tried to load a family, I heard the dreaded noise of the box that pops up when the game crashes. It said "The application has crashed. The application will now be terminated." (I don't know how to a get a report when this happens) So anyways, I kept trying to run the game and this kept happening at about the same spot in the loading process. Then the game eventually wouldn't even start to load. The Sims2 screen (the white one) would some on and it would stay like that. So I kept opening and closing the CD ROM hoping the game would start up. Once I did get a different error ... it said "A Problem occurred when trying to transfer the file 'E:/AutoRun.exe' from the media. Do you want to retry to copy the file, or cancel the installation?" I wasn't trying to install the sims... just trying to play the game. So I got fed up an uninstalled the game (keeping my saved games). I still had problems when I reinstalled the game. By this time I was very frustrated. I had spent a lot of time and some money and the problem wasn't resolved. So I uninstalled the game completely... including any saved games. I haven't reinstalled it yet. But I was curious if anyone could tell me what is wrong. Is it my computer? Could it be the game itself or the CD? There are tiny scratches but no big ones and no cracks. I thought, if it was the CD, that the game wouldn't be able to download at all... but it was downloading after I uninstalled it the first time. I have a Desktop PC with 49 out of 80 GB available when I had Sims2 installed on the computer. First, try removing all custom content, objects and downloads you've added to your game. Make sure you have the latest game patches. You can get them at http://thesims2.ea.com/update/ Next of all, make sure you have the latest drivers for your graphics card. You can get ATI drivers at http://www.ati.com From there, make sure you have installed the latest windows updates. Visit http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com If you are still having problems, run an antivirus and possibly spyware check to see if there are programs that managed to slip in and cause havic in your system.
