    Game crashing

    Intel(R) Pentium(R) M processor 1300MHz, ~110MHz
    512 MB RAM (198MB used, 1050MB available)
Windows XP Professional (5.1, Build 2600) Service Pack 1
    DirectX 9.0c

    MOBILITY RADEON 9000
    Driver Name: ati2dvag.dll
    Driver Version: 6.13.0010.6279 (English)
    DDI Version: 8
    Video Memory: 32MB

I'm having a problem with the Sims 2 CD ROM on my laptop. It installed correctly, and functions pretty well. But whenever I get to a point in the game where my sims log an event that has occurred into their memory bank...the game crashes completely.

Would anyone be able to help me? :)

Would you care to rephrase that part. I am afraid that I cannot feel confident that I understand what you mean. Sims actually "remember" a great deal of events so you would tend to get a crash every minute of play ... or even more often than that if what I think you mean is what you actually mean

Your laptop is very much at the extreme minimum for playing the game. You could try making sure all the settings in the game options and graphic options menus are set to the minimum (lowest possible) settings.

    Thanks for replying.

Okay, well I never actually get to see EXACTLY what it is...but the game crashes whenever something blue pops up over one of the sims' heads and spins around... It doesn't happen often, only when major things happen.

And the model of my laptop is a Dell Latitude D600.

    Thanks again!

Hmmm ... no specific ideas other than to suggest a cut-back on all game settings. Like I said, you have the bare minimum system requirements so any sudden extra demand for computer resources will tend to cause a crash.

You could try playing in debug mode (use the cheat console: [Ctrl]+[SHIFT]+[C] to enter the following cheat code:

    boolProp testingCheatsEnabled true

The capitals aren't crucial but they help you to read the joined up words. If you play with debug enabled any games errors will generate a throrough error report as a text file in My Documents\EA Games\The Sims s\Logs\

You would need to enable viewing of files details in that folder to find the most recently made Object_Error file (they are pretty large files, but they should give a pretty clear indication of what caused the game to fail).
