Garden Club I hope I'm not missing a thread, but I don't see much about gardening. Now I'm obsessed and have lots of questions. I'm still experimenting with seasons for planting, how much to water, when to fertilize and so on and would love to hear tips. Also, can I only plant tomatoes until I join the garden club and get new seedlings? I'm not having much luck so far.
No you can get to plant more, when you get more gardening talent Badges. Same with fishing. the more you fish, the more badges the better bait and gear. I use the auto sprinklers and its best if you put a green house around your garden. as well as garden lights. switch the lights to auto. And if your sprinkler starts to leak. Call the repairman. He or she seem to be the only ones that can repair sprinklers. Also put a few ladybug posts near your fruit trees. That way you don't have to risk turning into a Plant sim by spraying to much When you get a gold gardening badge, you can talk to your plants, which makes them happy
Okay, I'm rich, so I can build a greenhouse. I have a ladybug house but the orange and lemon trees still need spraying. What about fertilizing? It seems like the option only comes up sometimes. I do have automatic sprinklers but also a weather machine, so sometimes I make it rain just for the lightning. Bad idea? Actually, I have sprinklers on one bed and not on the other as an experiment and they're doing about the same. "SICKLY"!
In Sim-World it seems to be sufficient to fertilize only once, before planting. An trees develop quite well without ever been fertilized. As for the Plant Sim: If I have to spray certain trees more frequently, I just sell the crops and that seems to work since none of my gardening sims turned into Plant-sims yet. I believe the factor here is, how much chemicals you consume, not how much you actually use...just like in real life -le
Try tending to them as soon as they need it, whether thats tending or spraying, I found it keeps them healthier that way. I even had one guy get out of bed just to look after his plants. Once you get the gold badge you'll get the option to talk to them which will make them a lot healthier, until then its trial and error.
Make sure you have a sprinkler that covers the tree. The trees are touchy little beasts but just keep trying, the better your sim gets at garening the easier it gets.
Word of warning with gardening. Never leave a sim set to Business >> Be Farmer unattended during rain .... I only just managed to catch Chatham Antrobus before Grimmy took his charred and still smokin' carcass off to digital heaven.
Cool. I was wondering if you could have a home business selling produce, and now I know ... I had a sim fly a kite at night and she almost ended up charred as well ... she was definitely shocked!
Just to clear up the Business >> Be Farmer option ... It doesn't cover the selling of produce exactly. It merely leaves the poor sim on a Macro of gardening duties ... to be honest, now I think of it, it might even be a Pescado hack (I currently have Marvin "The Mechanoid Marvel" Tangell farming 24/7, except for recharges and the occasional doggie walk to keep his spirits up (eh? It's a MACHINE darn it!). Also something odd happened to Mr Coyne, Teagan's pop, and now he's really quite happy just farming ... so long as the sun shines and it rains now and then .... ) You can sell produce using the OFB display shelves (six apples per shelf ... I've been using the bakery ones cos that looks more foody at the Vorderman's, Penn Vale flower shop, The Blooming Corner but it takes customers an age to buy a single apple ... LOL. Mind you it's useful to have it there for non-gardening sims to nip out for some fruit and veg when they want to clear the furious bits (I can't stand all that trashcan kicking over ... although the free compost comes in handy ... I'm still trying to figure a way of getting it kicked over to order ) ... or else to make up some platinum mood juice ... all the other juices are a waste of valuable good fruit IMHO
I recently had a bug infestation like the usual cockroach ones from garbage, but outside, all over the yard. No garbage issues. Has that happened to anyone? Everyone out there stomping and spraying, even in the street. Kind of funny, but I had other plans for the evening...finally called an exterminator.
