German Minister Authorises Plan To Kill Pooh http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/europe/5003354.stm I named him Pooh cos his first act on arrival in Austria was seek out the hunny ... accidentally mangling a beehive. If the poor old fella was looking for a mate why couldn't they have flown one in for him instead of letting him wander around with his want slots for 'woohoo in the woods' unfulfilled. I'm so mad I wanna cry :(
Good & Bad News! Pooh has decided Bavaria is not bearable http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/europe/5010432.stm The bad news is that I didn't immediately notice that the Austrians also intend to shoot him
You know what. This is so typical of people. They welcome these animals into their community because they want to be "one with nature" again, or it's a tourist thing, yet they do not realize that animals are wild. They do not consider the consequence of their actions (both the people and the animals). When the animal acts the way it is supposed to (i.e. eating livestock, being aggressive) it's only then that people think it's a problem - and that's only because it has inconvenienced us. It was either in the Banff or Jasper (Canada) area that the city thought elk were a welcome animal due to high tourism and everyone wanting a picture with these animals. Of course with nothing to keep the game in-check they started to multiply and cases of attacks naturally went up. *Instead of the city doing what could be (or would have been) much safer to the public (i.e. shooting/hunting the elk) they were thinking of bringing in wolves and cougar to "naturally" control their elk-problem. I guess the above situation is a little different, but it still shows that people have no idea what they're doing with wild animals. But whenever someone gets hurt (from what could have been an easily fixable situation if taken immediate action) they either do something stupid or potentially more dangerous. *Information following the asterisk may not have been put into motion - it was mentioned a year or so ago, but I have not heard any word on whether or not the cougar/wolf plan was green lighted.
