Going beyond Centrino Centrino, introduced back in 2003, was part of a marketing strategy by Intel offering wireless connectivity, with a power efficent processor and chipset. 5 years, later after multiple iterations, Intel's pushing forward with "Centrino 2". What finally sparked a name change was ultimately confusion among consumers and retailers selling Centrino to consumers about the variations of Centrino and the subsequent releases. By branding the latest platform as Centrino 2, it will hopefully convey a message to consumers this is indeed the latest Centrino Platform out there. Things to expect: 45nm Intel Core 2 Duo with 1066 FSB, SSE4.1 support and new instructions to SSSE3. The chipset features a new graphics core, DDR3 support, version 2 of Intel's Turbo Cache Memory and utilizing DisplayPort instead of older HDMI, DVI, and VGA connections for external displays and projectors. Expect Centrino 2 to hit retail shelves around Summer of this year.
