Have you sought help at www.thesims2.com there is an extensive tech support there I only suggest this because I don't have a clue why you're having this problem.

I'm afraid that is the problem. A mobo with an integrated graphics chip is ok for the internet or word processing but it is just not powerfull enough to run most of today's games. That is the bad news. The good news (sort of) is that you can buy a decent video card for less than a $100. Just make sure you take Michelle's advice and go to the sims2 site first to find out which video cards have been tested to successfully run the game.

I doubt that it's the integrated graphics card that's the problem.
From the Intel site, try this:

    Symptoms:

The Sims* 2 game will not run.

Error: "Failed to find any DirectX 9.0c compatible graphics adapters in this system! Please make sure you have a DirectX 9.0c compatible graphics adapter and have installed the latest drivers provided by the manufacturer. The application will now terminate."

    Solution:

The following steps can be used to eliminate or minimize the issue(s) reported with the game:

    1. Set the display to 16-bit color. To make this change, follow these steps:
    a. Click on the Start menu and select Settings, Control Panel, and then double-click on Display. If using Microsoft Windows* XP: Click on the Start menu and select Control Panel, "Switch to Classic View" if the category view is shown, and then double-click on Display.

    b. Select the Settings tab.

    c. Change the Color Quality (Color Depth) to 16-bit color.
    2. Run the game with the -w switch which forces the game to run in a window. To add this switch, follow these steps:

    a. Right-click on the The Sims 2 game and left-click on Properties. You can do this either on the game's shortcut on the desktop or on the game's entry in the Start menu.

    b. Add a space and -w to the end of the Target field, so that it looks like this: "C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\The Sims 2\TSBin\Sims2.exe" -w

Note: The actual path may vary depending on where the game was installed. Make sure that the -w goes outside the quotation marks and that there is a space between the last quotation mark and the -w.

    c. Click OK.

    This applies to:
Intel 82815 Graphics Controller and Intel 82810 Graphics Controller

unfortunately, I have to agree with WereBear here. his card is right at the borderline of compatibility so even if the game was to work with his card, I wouldnt even bother. I would go out and upgrade anyhow. chances are, the upgrade will clear that error right up.

Oh, dear. The 82810s are not something that can run the game, which we found out before TS2 came out. That card probably won't support direct X 9.0c, no matter what drivers you use. The first Intel card which will play TS2 is the 82845g/gl, and even that won't do it unless you have better than a 2.0ghz processor, because none of the Intel cards are T&L enabled, even the 82865 or any of the other newer Intel cards. And as I recall from when we were trying to help people upgrade their video cards, the computers the 82810s are in sometime are more difficult to upgrade than computers with other video cards.

If you can upgrade, you'll only be able to use PCI (*not* PCI express, but the old style that was before AGP) cards. About the best that those come are the Geforce FX5200 or the Radeon 9200s. Most places are phasing out their PCI cards now that even AGP has become outmoded by the new PCI Express connections which are so much faster.

The old official Sims site has a Sims2 section which will have a lot of information from back in August and September of 2004 on video cards.

If you want to refine your searches, my name, KatAnubis, as well as KatEnigma and Kellinar will narrow them down a bit, if they haven't been culled because of age. The 3 of us were spending a lot of time there explaining to people how to upgrade their computers and I spent a number of hours finding information on the various computers which used the 82810s as they were fairly common then.

You might also want to do a search on this site as I believe I (and others) may have dealt with it here too.

    Sorry I can't help more.
