HELP.. Can't create a sim, or play the game properly.. graphics card maybe? Hi all, my name is Lisa and recently I bought the Sims 2 from overseas, but it was brand new, not opened and still in it's packaging, anyways, so I installed it (took forever to install it too, because it kept freezing on 23% with the message "TSData\Res\Sound etc") but after a while it just started working... but that's not why I'm here. The Sims 2 installed, but... as soon as I got into the game of Pleasantview (and the other neighbourhoods were much the same), I was greeted with this image: Okay, so I moved on, thinking it was normal, tried to create a Sim. Got this image: Tried to create an adult Sim, and the game froze and collapsed to the desktop with the error message "The application has crashed. The application will now terminate". This also happens when I try to move a previously created Sim family to a house.. but it lets me create a house perfectly. It's baffling! It keeps freezing me and my game keeps crashing, so by now I'm annoyed, but I simply opened the game again and retried it.. same thing. I've also deleted .cache files, closed all background operations running, and I haven't downloaded anything lately but the Sims 2 Patch... Can someone help, please? I have stats about my computer if they're needed: Operating System: Windows XP Home Edition (5.1, Build 2600) Service Pack 2 (2600.xpsp_sp2_gdr.050301-1519) Language: English (Regional Setting: English) System Manufacturer: HP Pavilion 061 System Model: DT065A-ABG a450a BIOS: Phoenix - AwardBIOS v6.00PG Processor: Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 2.60GHz Memory: 504MB RAM Page File: 290MB used, 937MB available Windows Dir: C:\WINDOWS DirectX Version: DirectX 9.0c (4.09.0000.0904) DX Setup Parameters: Not found DxDiag Version: 5.03.2600.2180 32bit Unicode -- Card name: Intel(R) 82845G/GL/GE/PE/GV Graphics Controller Manufacturer: Intel Corporation Chip type: Intel(R) 82845G Graphics Controller DAC type: Internal Device Key: Enum\PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_2562&SUBSYS_57781462&REV_03 Display Memory: 64.0 MB Current Mode: 1024 x 768 (16 bit) (75Hz) Monitor: hp f1903 flat panel monitor Monitor Max Res: 1280,1024 Driver Name: ialmrnt5.dll Driver Version: 6.14.0010.3943 (English) DDI Version: 9 (or higher) Driver Attributes: Final Retail Driver Date/Size: 11/2/2004 09:19:48, 37951 bytes -- If anymore are needed please let me know... and I'm sorry if there are other threads on this that I missed!
Your game can run with the specs you have, but you have to have things turned down in terms of settings, as your Intel(R) 82845G/GL/GE/PE/GV Graphics Controller is pretty bottom of the barrel. (I used to have a computer with those specs. I was so pleased when I built my new computer so I could replace that one.) Also, make sure that you have the best drivers for that graphics card. If you are using the ones which came with the computer, usually they have been upgraded since the computer was built.
