    Help, Im Confused

I have really wanted to play Sims on PC for a long time especially with all the cool new expansion packs coming out but i dont want to buy it and not be able to play it on my computer. Anybody that can help me find out if my computer is good enough to play The Sims 2 would be greatly thanked.

How did you get that good a processor with such low RAM and an outmoded video "card"? (I thought that SIS quit making onboard video cards.)

You would need more RAM and a video card. Does your machine have an AGP slot, a PCI Express slot or open PCI slots?

Most computers have some PCI slots because that's what network cards and the like are in, even if the computer also has the newer PCI Express slots.

But if you don't have PCI Express slots or an AGP slot, then you can't upgrade to the better video cards. (The "best" available video cards for PCI slots is the Geforce FX5200 and ATI Radeon 9200.) And if your computer doesn't have those or an open "old style" PCI slot, then you can't upgrade at all.

As is, your computer wouldn't be able to play the game as the SIS onboard videocards are not supported at all. I've heard of some people forcing it to work, but it won't play well at all.

Frankly, there are some newer desktop models which can play the game ok (and be upgraded later) which are cheaper than trying to upgrade both the video card and RAM as the outmoded video cards like the FX5200 and Radeon 9200 for PCI (as opposed to the completely different "PCI Express" slot types) are getting harder to find and more expensive (unless you can get a "salvaged" one. But then you don't have the guarentees that they will work as well as a new one.)

I moved your thread to this section, since it's for the kind of questions you had (regarding computer configurations as opposed to problems in installing the game.)

Also, you might find this thread interesting as these are people who have similar onboard videocards to the one you have:
