HELP! In need of Game Support Sorry if this post is in the wrong place, but I need help! I reinstalled and started playing Sims again after a much needed six month break (had to prioritize whether I wanted to keep my job or keep playing) I've been playing the last two weeks with The Sims and the first two expansion packs. I just installed Hot Date this week and am unable to get a chef to appear in the downtown area. I have installed many different types of fridges and ovens, even the ones which came with it. No luck. Now I have definately reorganized things with both "Sim Categorizer" and "Object Organizer" but there has not been a problem until now. I've even checked with the premade lots with restaurants, no chefs there either. The fridges and ovens are in the kitchen, but no cooks. HELP! How can my neighborhoods have wonderful dates with out food? Thanks in advance for the advice. Roe
I've never had that problem before. I usually build it, and then when I get back on later, the chef is there.... Have you tried restarting your PC and Game?
I've restarted the game as well as the computer. I ended up reinstalling the game, all the expansion packs and the patches Once I started reinstalling the FAR files I would go back and check if the chef was there. He was there until I moved the appliances back to the objects folder. I have checked all of the IFF's and they are all catigorized properly, but I guess one of them are messing up something. I think my only option is to troubleshoot each IFF file by moving them individually back to the Object folder and checking to see if the Chef is there or not. What do you think?
I think that you should check which objects you inserted. Some objects you may have added are non-Hot Date objects so it might not trigger the chef.
Yeah, if the stove or fridge was cloned pre-Hot Date (well, at least before the perso who made it installed Hot Date), I don't think it will work properly.
That would make sense, but why would it make the generic stoves and fridges not produce the chef. Even in the premade lots which come with the expansion pack. He is there until I make the other objects available to use. Would changing the catagory on certain objects effect the availability of the premade, hot date compatible objects? Again, thanks for the ideas, I hope you don't think I'm shooting them down, they are just bringing up more questions. Roe
You could use a program to change the characteristics of a object to Hot Date. I don't remember which program. It might be The Sims Edit, but not sure.
When I reinstalled the game w/ expansion packs, I moved the objects I've downloaded in the past to another area. Then I went in and checked to see if the chef was there with the premade kitchens with stoves and fridges. He was. Then when I moved the objects I've downloaded in the past back into the "Objects" folder and went back to look at the premade lots with kitchens, the chefs were not available and the maitre de only stated that the restaurant was being remodeled and did not have stoves and fridges yet. But I didn't do anything to the lots except make the other items available. To add frustration, when I moved them back to the "Objects" folder individually to see if one in particular was making the chefs "disappear" nothing happened. I moved them all back and the chefs were still there. THEN when I moved the "UserInfo" back from the games before I uninstalled it happened again! hehehe .........makes my brains rattle thinking about it.....
That is a really bad problem. I'd say try and contact Maxis but it will either take forever for them to get back to you or they'll tell you to do stuff you've already done.
I ended up doing just that. *sigh* It's hard letting your sims go. Thanks for the help guys. I still don't know what the problem was, but it's resolved for now.
