Help with Graphics Card Update Okay I have searched the threads trying to find the answer to this problem, and I have yet to find it. Everything in my computer is up to date except I can't figure out the graphics card update. my graphics card is a Mobility Radeon 9200 and the chip: Mobility Radeon 9200 AGP (0x5C61) the ATI site is not user friendly (to me at least) i looked up windows xp, and then the type i had. but they only offer upgrades in 9600, not 9200. but i found 9200 in just Radeon, not Mobility. I am not sure what i should use to upgrade. and the one time i thought i found it, and tried installing it said something about VGA or something first and then do the AGP. so i'm confused. sorry this is not super specific. please help me out, i've been trying to figure this out since like june. haha. i'd really appreciate it
LOL I just checked the ati driver site and you're right To be honest that would probably be what you want but it's best to be sure. Please check the FAQs in my signature and then run a dxdiag to get an accurate set of system specifications. Tell us all the details on the System page (the first thing you see) and ALSO the information on the DISPLAY tab Please also answer this question. Why do you want to upgrade the display driver? Are you having problems? Remember the golden rule: if it isn't broke, don't try to fix it.
the system... The reason i would like to update is that my game doesn't run really. The Sims 2 and University runs fine. But when i tried installing open for business (back in june) it would play and then randomly freeze. a lot of times on when i'm choosing objects and different colors of like couches. But I had no custom content at that time. And when i took open for business of University worked fine. Someone got me Seasons, and the same thing is happening. Only it freezes on the neighborhoods, or when i try to go into a house. Or it will freeze on objects. Takes different amounts of time, but it always ends up freezing. And I've really wanted to play lol. Yes, it does help. Let's be honest, upfront, here. Laptops for gaming are extremely expensive and even then some sacrifices have to be made. You have an on the shelf laptop which is great for most purposes and -- as you already know -- it will even cope with fancy graphics games like The Sims 2 ... just. One thing we all need to know is that expansion packs for games very often push the limits that previous expansions and versions avoided. This is partly due to the game's maker discovering new geeky ways around the limits and partly due to the simple truth that the players demand more WOW for their buck. I remember a few years ago with the original Sims; I had a really terrible old puter and after a couple of expansions I was tearing out my hair. :( Right. I doubt you care much abouty my old problems. What about yours? Truth be known I don't know what to advise re upgrading your display driver. I'm sorry but you'll probably need to experiment. If you have a System Restore disc from HP/Compaq AND if you can make a set of back up files of all Sims and other personal files on a CD, a flash drive or a back up hard drive (eg Drive D: ) then you might set a (Windows) system restore point and then download & run the ATI drivers for the ATI 9200 and see what happens. If it all goes pear-shaped, at least you can restore the computer to factory settings and you have the back-up files to get you back to where you were ... Failing that ... start saving up for a spiffy new puter and meanwhile turn down all your graphics display options and concentrate on playing very small lots and families (keep your load down by not over-furnishing and overdecorating your sims and their houses. Things like garden fences uses up lots of computer processing time (it can take a dumb old puter chip an Ice Age to figure out the shortest way to the trash can if there's a fence in the way ... go figure. Also experiment and leave out stuff that make your puter chug. Even better, share your experiences with us so others (you're not alone can benefit from what you've learned! I DO remember that I learned a very great deal about the playing of Sims on my crappy coal-powered computer ... it's a good way of learning when your are forced to manage with as little as possible.
My sims wont work on my PC :sob:, so i play them on my boyfriends PC and hes got a GTS 8800 graphics card, and omg :eeek: the graphics are awesome with it, i can have them all on full and it looks soo life like, its undeliverable! i recomend everyone gets a GTS 8800
The 8800 is highly awesome but it's not within everyone's budget. I'm using a 7800GT on this machine, and it still performs more than adequately with most games. My only gripe is that the games I play (Battlefield 2 and other such demanding apps) take longer to load than a newer model, but that's just the way it goes I guess. A friend of mine has two 7800GT's in dual SLI mode. The running times of games on that machine are actually a lot faster, depending on the game and its demands. Needless to say the graphics themselves are better
Hey friend, if you want ati or geforce drivers, you can also find here: http://www.guru3d.com http://www.ati.amd.com (point to "drivers & software" and then click on "find a driver". From the next window, you'll have to select your OS, then your graphics card type and then the model). Last catalyst version up until this moment is 7.2 Before installing the new drivers, I recommend a fully clean uninstallation of the old one, meaning, you'll have to go and clean the windows registry. If you don't have a registry cleaner or does not know how to clean it manually, then leave the windows regkeys alone, otherwise you'll may have a bigger fish to fry . I usually do the following: Use the uninstall in the add/remove in the control panel and restart the machine. Before windows loads up again, hit F8 and load the system in "safe mode", then delete every file or directory from ATI or Geforce that you know where it is, or for the ones that you don't know, you can always use the windows search assistant. Then start up the regcleaner and run it, then, after it's finished, manually clean the windows registry (in case it didn't clean everything. It's always good to check). Then clean the windows itself (temp files, etc...) and do a new regcleaner run, then defrag the HD, and then restart the system, leaving the "safe mode", to install the new drivers with windows fully loaded (normal load). To open the windows registry editor, click on START-RUN, type REGEDIT and hit ENTER, but do not mess with it if you don't know how to. These keys control everything, not only installed software, but also other things, such as commands. For example, the left mouse button double clicking feature. So, let's say that you messed up with this key... if you delete it or alter it in anyway, you can double click any icon you want how many times you want, but it'll never open/execute anything anymore, no matter how perseverent you are. This is a friendly advice. See ya !!!
In his case I would take the driver directly from the HP/Compaq-Site your drivers are from 05/2004 theses are from 07/2005...not the newest, but still newer than his I just didn't have the time to digg deeper http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?softwareitem=ob-32593-1&lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en&os=228&product=442914&lang=en
Help?! Can someone please help me?? I really don't understand anything about the graphics card... Could someone find me a direct link to the page with the file I have to download and tell me which one it is? I've searched, and I downloaded one I thought was right, but it told me before installation that it was incompatible... Here's the info on my card... Display adapter: S3 Graphics Inc. I don't know much about those, but I found this page with a driver that should be OK for your graphics doo-hickey http://drivers.softpedia.com/progDownload/S-Graphics-Savage-Download-1748.html
