How do I start a Salon?

Ok i'm having probs here...I'm trying to get my sim to run a succesful salon...I've bought a place , it looks really neat , i have some make-over chairs etc...(home business) Now i've opened and the thing is ..Do customers come to a register to ask for a make over? Because until now i've only been able to give make-evers for free..When I 'offer a make-over ' to a customer he accepts and the nothing happens...What do I do? I saw a sim thinking about one of those electronic black things...So i placed one inside and now everyone keeps standing around it and i earn my money by using selling techniques...But not by giving people make-overs...this isn't what i thought it'd be like...Is there an another way of doing this? Please tell me how because this is very frustrating.
    Thanks! :):)

Urr it can be kinda complicated. If you have a chair you need to have a sim (an employee) assigned to it be a stylist. Customers will then come in and look at the chair and buy bar appears over their head. Have another sim (not the stylist) do some sales routines on the customer until they decide to "buy" at which point they sit in the makeover chair.

If you only have one sim at the business then you can only offer a free makeover since there isn't going to be an assigned stylist to do a paid-for makeover. In the simiverse, stylists don't do their own sales ... but they are prepared to do pro bono work. Hey! That's The Sims for ya! :p ;)

You need a stylist and you need to have few distractions for your shopping Sims. (I made the mistake of putting in a "gift store" as part of the big salon. The gift store got all the business!)

Also, you should download the new patch for OFB (unless you also have FF, in which case you need that one.) It will make the salon run better as there were some glitches that needed to be fixed.

On another lot I put in a salon chair where it was otherwise things like pool tables, video games and the like. I didn't put in the electronic ticket thingy. That chair gets used more than the ones in the shop *meant* to be a beauty salon!

The biggest problem once you do have the Sims using the makeover chair is when you have a stylist who isn't "Cosmetology-Gold". It wasn't so bad for the Sims I could go play to get a "do over makeover" but the townies running around with clown faces from a messed up makeover were annoying.

Like the others are saying you need to hire employees and assign them the job of styelist. It took me awhile to find that out after i got OFB.
