    How do you....

Question: I haven't even begun skinning or anything. What is the best program to do it in? And how do you do in 3-d. There have been many downloads that I have deleted because they either disappear in the game, don't work like they're supposed to or keep rotating depending on the angle you're looking from.

I've heard Adobe Photoshop is good but it's expensive.

Also, I put a bunch of different colored roofs in the the roof file, but they aren't showing up in the game. Any suggestions?:

For skinning I use Adobe Photoshop, but any paint program can be used. I like working with paint programs that allow you to work in Layers though. Just open a .bmp file that's a sims skin and you can edit it and save it using the naming system the game uses.

I've heard of a free graphics program named Gimp but I haven't had much experience with it. I think it lets you work in layers though. And free is always a good price to try something out! You can also get free tirals of Adobe Photoshop and Paint Shop Pro at the official sites for them.

To see what you're doing in 3D you can then put your skin file into the appropriate skin folder in a program like SimPose or SimShow. That way you can turn the sim to see your skin from all viewpoints and get an idea of where it needs little adjustments sometimes.

For your roofs, you might get SimCop, (I think that's what it's called, it's at the official website) and see if maybe the roof files not showing up might not be saved with the correct number of colors or something like that.

    Good luck!

Thanks for the information. It's my birthday today, so maybe I'll splurge and get a paint program and start experimenting.
About the roofs, I ended up physically moving them out of downloads and putting them in the game data roof file.

Sorry I didn't understand that your roofs weren't already in the roofs folder!! whoops! Glad you figured that one out! :D
