    How far will Spore go?

How far Spore will go in your opinion? will it brake the sims series record? and why do/don't you think so?

Just before we start, let's keep this discussion at a good intelligent rate for a change ;) .

I think ther's a big chance that spore will brake the sims series selling record, because i think it applies more for gamers than from the sims.

I also think Spore will break the selling record because it has stuff to keep almost anyone happy, and lets you create any type of creature you want and have it do whatever you want.

While I absolutly love the idea and look of spore I don't think it will outsell the sims. I don't think that it will attract to such a large audience. The sims sold so many because girls as well as guys loved it, and many older people loved it too. The image of spore is a science-fictiony (I know its not really like that but that is its image, its so much more than that), evolutionary kinda thing, which I have a feeling won't appeal to nearly as many as the image of the control your sims. That said I still think it will sell very well with the mainstream gaming simulation community. It could posibly outsell the simcity series though. PLus I doubt a game like this would have expansion packs (They just don't fit into spore I think) so that would also slow down the sale compared to the sims.

I doubt it'll break the selling record of the sims, or at least not instantly. The Sims took years to build up a reputation, well not years but I don't think it was suddenly famous after three minutes of selling time. I think the Sims actually appeals to most people, because it is a simulator for controlling people's lives, giving them a home to live in, and most people have lives like this.. I'm not sure if everybody is actually interested in world domination.. just yet.

Spore poses evolution as fact. Undoubtedly all the idiots will crawl out of the woodwork and protest it and claim that there needs to be an emphasis on the Intelligent Design aspect of the game and links to Creationist web pages in the help files.

Did I say idiots? I'm sorry. I meant idiotic, regressionary theists. And did I say woodwork? I meant churches, temples, mosques and basement sacrificial alters.

Of course, all the controversy will just serve to boost sales.

In my opinion, spore will probably be the next Sims, and then some. Yes, the 'real life simulator' that appealed to the average computer-illiterate Joe is gone with spore, and that is what started sims on its ballistic rise to fame, but what remains is an easy-to-use game, complete lack of commitment to playing for hours on end, and player-used content up the wazoo. All the elements from the sims are present in Spore; it's basically The Sims, on a galactic scale, and with aliens.

This game won't be sold anywhere in the United States except for New England, the West Coast and North Florida.

Evolutionism isn't Satanism; just because God created all living things doesn't keep them from evolving into something else once he's done creating them now is there? Besides, you're at the controls of the primordial soup and beyond in Spore, so in essence you are god over your species. See? Spore is very creationist.

Boy, I better not move down to Alabama any time soon then... they'd label me a Satanist for sayin that evolution can work in a christian machination. Some people can be so stubborn... or blindly single-minded...

And now to (hopefully) get this thread back on the track it started: Much like I said a few days ago, I still think Spore will go far.

spore will get nowhere near the sales of the sims. After all, spore is some geeky evolution thing, not a social simulator that everyone and their dog likes. Besides, there wont be as many expansions if any at all, the "expansions" will be user created content.

Hmm. Maybe you will have to pay to download more user-created content

I think it will get the record. I mean, think about it. "From the creator of Sims" No doubt all mothers wil buy it and the game looks quite whacky and the consept is far more nice than all those Shoot them up games according to the parents. And still there is all those fans, like you(i doubt  ).

Nup no way, a major part of the game is the automatic download of other users creations and all the creatures in your game will be from other people. Will thinks user content is fantastic so there is no way he would charge you for it. :spin:

That doesnt stop the evil vampire that is Electronic Arts from doing the same thing, though.
