    I lost my university!

Hi everyone! I've just got the game and the first expansion a week ago and have been playing ever since. It wasn't until yesterday that I got an error message popped up when I tried to ask my Sim to do an action in his own house in the university. I was given the option to cancel, reset, or delete. I chose 'cancel' but the box kept popping up. I tried 'delete' and I lost my Sim altogether. I quitted without saving so I got my Sim back. The error happened earlier on today and this time I chose 'reset'. (being the only option i haven't tried b4) Now, I lost the whole university! It seems that the university has 'reset' to its original state. My Sim and his College girlfirend and two other buddies just disappeared. :(((

I'm still able to phone my lost College Sims from the neighbourhood (Pleasantview in this case) through their friends and families, but it seems that i can't play them anymore. I know they are somewhere in the game. Is there any way that I can get them back? Has anyone experience that problem b4? Please help me!

Er, so you were playing with boolProp TestingCheatsEnabled true? (Beause, in my experience that is the only time the Cancel/Reset/Delete error appears.)

Rather than put you through a load of hoops to recover a week's worth of play my advice is this.

    • First get used to the idea that they are gone for good.
    • Second. (To make sure it cannot happen.)
      1. Reset your game to it's original condition but deleting the folder:
      • C:\Documents and Settings\~user~\My Documents\EA Games\The Sims 2
      • This will remove all changes you made to the game unless you have installed some extremely viruse-like downloads, in which case a complete reinstall will be required.
    • When you next start the game it will remake the missing folders back to their original state.
    • In future, do not use the testing cheat (or any boolprop cheats) unless you are completely familiar with how to use them because they are dangerous in inexperienced hands and cause big messes like this.
PS I just heard that Ivan Ivanovich has reported seeing your computer from 'his' vantage point ...

Thanks for the reply! But will deleting the folder also reset the whole game to its original state, removing all my other Sims Families who are still working?

In a word, yes. ;) You didn't mention other families that are still working. However my advice remains. Whatever problem you acquired through boolprop might well rear up and nuke more families. You've only been playing a week. Nuke them all and start over. ;)
