IGN: E3 2007 SimCity Societies Update

July 11, 2007 - When we got a look at SimCity Societies at EA's pre-E3 event, we decided to give the game a chance. No, it's not the SimCity that we've known for years, but that doesn't exclude the possibility of fun. The focus on societal energies, now known as societal values, is going to allow players to fiddle with their towns on a social scale rather than administrative. Urban planning has gone in favor of urban experimentation. We got a chance to see it again today at E3 and took a look at a heavy industrial productive society.

Before we get into the city itself, the biggest news today is that the game will ship fully customizable. While Tilted Mill wasn't talking about some of the features they would be including to make this easier for some players, they did say that players would be able to customize anything in the game. That includes buildings, decorations, citizens, and rules. This full access is something that they decided would be a big deal to the community surrounding the game regardless of whether old SimCity fans decided to give the game a chance. As we mentioned before, it would be cool to see a building editor in the game itself, and it seems as if this isn't out of the question. Hopefully we'll find out more about these plans before too long.
