    installation issues...

    specs:

    1)processor name & speed: Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 2.80 GHz
    2)system memory: 512MB RAM
3)windows version: Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition(5.1, Build 2600)
    4)free space: 214 GB(230,049,525,760 bytes)
    5)total hard disk space: 232.6 GB(250,048,479,232 bytes)
    6)direct x version: directX 9.0c(4.09.0000.0904)
    7)display adapter(name & model number:( NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200
    8)display driver name, version number, & date: name: nv4_disp.dll, version 6.14.0010.9133(english), date: 6/23/2006 17:49:00
9)approx. total video memory: 128.0 MB
10)game detail: the sims 2 CD, OFB, and University(although now i don't think any of them are on my computer)
11)problem: ok, so previously i had installed the sims 2 and OFB. today i tried to install university(after i did everything under the thread about what to do before you install an expansion pack), and it didn't work. after i installed it the screen would pop up that said "the sims 2 university" and then it would go away and nothing would happen. so i uninstalled university and reinstalled it and the same thing happened; the screen would pop up and then it went away and the game still didn't start. then i tried to manually uninstall the game as well as the expansion packs following the thread about how to do that and now my computer doesn't even recognize the sims 2 disk 1. when i insert the disk nothing happens, and then when i tried to access it on the CD drive, it said "E:/ is not a valid Win32 application." then i checked the manual uninstall again and i found out that i accidentally skipped a step, so after going back and fixing that, i tried to click on the CD drive again and it now it says "setup.exe. has encountered a problem and needs to close. we are sorry for the inconvienience".

any help would be much appreciated, thank you!

Your computer is a little on the shallow side for university.
1gb of ram would be better 2gb of ram and it would run very well.
    Also 250m for video mem.
As for the other problem there is a thread somewhere here about using a reg editor, to clean out the remnants off the last install. Someone here might be able to point you in the right direction.
My self would be using regedit. However if you dont know how to use it or what you are looking for. Dont.

i'm pretty sure the regedit is what i did when i tried to manually uninstall it. so lets say i just want to install my regular sims 2 game. i dont even care about university. is there anything else i can do?
