It'll work....not too great though, those are pretty much the bottom of the barrel for integrated video. If you want to play the game with a more respectible framerate and the bells & whistles, I'd suggest that you shoot for a video card, depending on how fast your computer is. What you can do is hit DXDIAG in run in your start menu, and I can give you a rough idea of how you should upgrade.

It's better than an G/GL 82845 or 82865, but not by much. All the Intel integrated cards are non-T&L which means that they lack the ability to handle some of the lighting/texture aspects of the game nor the frame handling (transform) parts.

To quote the Intel page on this chipset: " Intel graphics products do not have hardware support for T&L. In most games, transform and lighting calculations can be performed on the processor with acceptable performance. A small number of games that specifically check for hardware T&L support may fail to run. "

Maxis has made it so that these cards will work, but they require a higher processor "speed" and they still will have many graphics options not available in the game.

If you are looking at this chipset because you are thinking of getting a computer which has it, I would not recommend it. You are much better off with a real video card than any integrated card on the market. And if you are thinking of getting a laptop, they have laptop cards which are *much* better than the Intel ones. (And unfortunately, laptop video/graphics cards are not upgradable unless you are looking at a "laptop" of the Alienware type, all of which are much more expensive than most people want to spend.)

yep. my system previously had the 82845 chipset in it alongside a 2GHZ Celeron (which is still has, but the radeon helps out quite a bit). ts2 ran, but barely. for about $80 on ebay, i was able to get a new motherboard and a new radeon 9250 which has drastically improved the performance on just about every one of my games.

i would highly recommend that if your mobo doesnt already have an agp slot, get a new one and a new video card. cant go wrong.

If he has the Intel express chipset, the mobo is for express, which should be faster than AGP. But that means looking for a PCI express video card, rather than an AGP video card. Those can be more expensive and there aren't as many low end ones available for that new system. And it's not to be confused with the PCI slots which hold PCI cards. Those are *older* than AGP and obsolete compared to the new PCI express. Unfortunately, they are not useful to each other. PCI and PCI express are leagues apart (in both abilities in general and ability to work together especially.)

Still, if I was building a new system this year (as opposed to the one I built a year ago), I'd start with a PCI express mobo and the components it needs. It seems that it is going to be replacing the AGP technology, which we were not sure would be happening at this time last year. (I'm still hoping that by the time I'm wanting a new system, that something even better than PCI Express will be available.)
