    It's the download thing again

I've tried everything under the sun to put the stuff I download from different sites into my game. I've even tried re-installing but nothing seems to work. I mean, I unzip my stuff into the Dowloads folder but what happens is, they'll unzip into a file and when I open the file the zip is still there. If anyone has figured this out can you please help me out...I'm sorta desperate. PLEASE!

ok, even after you unzip the file, the zipped file WILL still show. make sure that the unzipped files are not packeged. When you look at the files, if the icon looks kinda like a blue person, you need to click on that one and the custom sims custom content thingy will install it. I had that problem. I had downloaded all kinds of walls and floors and nothing was showing up. Very Frustrating:mad:

Hope this makes sence. I just woke but my brains not fully awake yet.

Also you need to make sure that the unzipped files are directly in the downloads folder and not in a sub folder see this post

Some websites (Which shall remain nameless) like to double zip their downloads. I mean that inside a zip file is many more zipped file. If you click on your zipped file do you see another bunch of file with the .zip extensions ? If so that's your problem. You need to unzip these files as well. What you want to see are files which end with .package i.e: nocheeringhack.package. Those are what need to be extracted to your download folder. There is another type of file that ends in .Sims2Pack, typically walls and floors. Those you do not copy to your download folder. Instead you double click on them. It will launch an install window and will place the required file in the download directory for you.

    Folders for your files

"Also you need to make sure that the unzipped files are directly in the downloads folder and not in a sub folder.."

I have had no problems getting downloads to show up in the game using sub-folders. As I understand it, the "Downloads" folder is where all the clothing, skins, makeup, genetics, heads, etc. go and these can NOT be in folders. However, objects CAN be. In fact, I have created a "User Downloads" folder (old habits are hard to break) separate and apart from the "Downloads" folder and then created subfolders using the names of each site the downloads included within them come from (my way of filing things). I've also created separate Wall and Floor folders and done the same sorting in them. All of this has worked just fine. So long as all skin files are in the "Download" file without folders, everything else can be sorted all over the place.

As to the Sims2packs, don't you need to activate the program in the game that does this automatic sort for it to work? (I'm sorry but I'm not at my regular PC to check this and give you it's exact location). On this, fyi...you don't have to keep the Sims2pack file in the game once you've installed it. This was handy to know just to keep the volume of stuff down in your game. I keep it filed in a separate file elsewhere on my PC, along with all the zip files, in case I need them for some reason later.

    Hope this is helpful!

Sims2's inbuilt installer worked fine for me without prior activation of anything. Can't speak for others, though.
