Our host suspended our web server because it had been unwittingly used to host a spammer's web site in a sneaky fashion that is the reason I hate letting people have shell access. The offending paying customer has been terminated (not him, just his account), and we should be good for now. I'm very sorry for the inconvenience this has caused everyone.</div>
This makes no sence Paying to host a site for a spammer, but not spamming. if they spammed the mail server would be suspended things like this happen... we had a 'wanna be hacker' at madsims, trying to start telnet daemon using a PHP include... which was like include($inc), which is bad!
These spammers are a pain. Kev, it is a shame they ruined your day, and others too. These spammers need to be taught a lesson. Lets try shoving 100 envolopes full of paper up their ass, and see how that feels. They do not care how much it affects others, so spammers are selfish! Someone should write a script that stops the spam and loggs the spammers IP, so we can catch them. Kev, it it is any consolation, my day has been as crap, as I got food poisoning, and have been in bed all of the day. Stupid quack did not realize it was food poising, and it wasnt till I was rushed to A+E, (Us equivalant to ER) that the found out what it was. 6 hours in A+e, boring! Well I do agree with you kev, SPAMMERS SUCK!!!! No they WOMP!!!!, or even better, Spammers are the low life scum of the Internet!
He was running an odd rendition of a (perl?) HTTP daemon. I have not found the file, so my theory is that he logged in, placed the file, started it, and then deleted it, but it showed up very conspicuously in my regular examination of the server. I just didn't realize it was doing evil things and listening on port 8088 until our host provided the spamcop reports. From now on I'll be checking our open ports on a regular basis with nmap. Oh, and just so you know.. I haven't forgotten about your cron job. I just haven't figure out how to get it to run without running it as root. I'll keep looking into it. If you have any suggestions, please forward them.
I did send them a $26,000 bill which they owe due to the terms they agreed to when getting hosting, doubt it'll be paid though.
Wow, don't wanna be in their shoes right now, if they dont pay up, cant u take legal action against them, as it is a breach of the Stradfast Networks TOS. They should pay, as they have caused alot of damage to the server!
