    Laptop Problem or....

I recently installed the Sims 2 on my laptop. I had no problems installing it and have no problems playing with the already created families. I successfully created a new neighborhood. However, when I got ready to populate this new neighborhood things went wrong. Sometimes the game will freeze up while loading the create a family page. Sometimes I can start to create the family, but then it freezes up in the middle. Occasionally I have been able to finish creating the family only to have it freeze while going back to the neighborhood. Each time it freezes I am forced to restart the game. The problem isn't limited to the new neighborhood either. It occurs in the previously made neighborhoods as well. I'm not sure if this is because I'm playing it on my laptop because on my desktop the game worked fine. I thought it might be a memory problem but I just really am not sure. Any ideas?

Would you post up a dxdiag report please?

Poor computer is overloaded trying to do create a family. While you have a lot of RAM, you have a very slow CPU (especially since you have CPU hog Vista) and a very lowgrade (nonT&L) graphics card (which uses the CPU too.)

So does that mean there's nothing that we can do to fix this? My specs are slightly similar:

Operating System: Windows Vistaâ„¢ Home Premium (6.0, Build 6001) Service Pack 1 (6001.vistasp1_gdr.080917-1612)

swmeek I got your benevolent dictator pal!!

What kind of problems are you having?
If you can get into the game go into the game settings and turn all the graphic settings to the lowest they will go if they're not already there.
Set the resolution to 800x600 if it's not already there too.
I don't care what any of those game mongers say but I still think integrated chipsets are not made for this kind of gaming.

    I'll try that, thanks.

My problems arise when I try to leave the creat a family screen, having finished creating my family. The game will process everything for a little bit, then it'll stop responding. So I ctrl+alt+delete to open task manager and end the sims 2, and it says something about The Sims 2 SC4 stopped responding. I don't know if that's relevant or not, but I've done everything I've read on numerous threads and nothing has worked.

    That damned igxprd32...

I have installed Sims 2 on my laptop (specs below), and everything worked nicely until I tried to build something. Then the game freezes, and after a minute or two I find myself on the desktop with an error message stating that 'igxprd32 has stopped working'. I know this is a rather common problem with chipsets like mine, but I have been unable to find a solution. Updating the drivers doeas not help at all (frankly, I think it crashes more often with the new drivers).
    Could you please help?

    Is this a legal version?
Illegal versions are notorious for the build mode not working is why I'm asking.
What expansions are you playing with ?
Recheck the minimum specs as when you have a non T&L graphics setup then the minimum cpu specs go up.
If you've overloaded the game with expansions and/or stuff packs this could be a reason why it won't play either.
Personally I don't care what EA says but I believe these Intel graphics chip are simply not cut out to run the game at all.
