    Many problems on Sims 2.

Hello. I'm Valhelm and my game has many problems.
It's Sims 2 double deluxe, BTW.
For one, CaS doesn't work at all. Sometimes it freezes as I try to select the sixth step it freezes. When that does work, it freezes on the loading screen. Because I cannot create a family, the game is far less fun for me.
    Next. Certain families won't work.
The Broke family was completley inaccesible. Whenever I loaded the family it crashed. Recently , though, I have played it.
I played the Pleasant family twice. Now, it also freezes on the loading screen.
The next is another big problem. The entire town of Strangetown freezes when I load it. So I can't play it.
In Veronaville, the Monty Family works but freezes during gameplay sometimes.
The Summerdream family worked twice then froze. Sometimes it froze during the loading screen, but other times, the icon at the bottom of the screen that shows the active sim, their aspiration, etc. is visible, but everything else is black.
Is there any way you can help me make my game more enjoyable?

Oh, also, I have a Windows Vista laptop that I got new in mid august.
I think I have the right technical specifications, and I always delete all of the background tasks except explorer before playing.
    Can someone please help me?

swmeek I got your benevolent dictator pal!!

    Is this a legitiamte copy?
Try deleting the groups cache and the cigen package in your Documents/Ea Games/ Sims2 folder and see if it helps.
The cigen package is created in the body shop/ cas part of the game and if there's something corrupted in it , it might cause problems.

But if I delete it, won't I be not able to ever do Create-a-Sim?
Yes, it is a legitamite copy.
    (Double deluxe)
If I delete those things will my game be ok?
    There's other problems, though.
I can't access the town of Veronaville, I can't play the Pleasant, Burb, Capp, or Summerdream family.
Is there any way I'll be able to do these things?
The main reason I bought sims2 was because of CaS.
I'll be able to use it, right?

(I'm sorry for double posting. I don't like having to edit a post more than twice.)
I have Documents/EAgames/Sims2 up. You're sure that this will end the freezing during loading?

Yes you'll be fine as they're only a temp folder of sorts.
If you wanna play it safe simply rename the file and then move it out of the folder.
The groups cache folder is notorious for causing major loading problems with the game as it's all the time becoming corrupted.
Oh and do you have any patches for the game yet?
ANother silly question I should have asked you is does your computer meet the minimum specs for the game?

    It meets the minimum specs.
    I deleted the folder.
I tried to download the patch but my version of the game had it installed.
And the only difference is I can play the Burb family.
    What else can I try?

Could you do up a dxdiag of your system ,put it in a zipped file and post it here so we can take a look at it.
Laptops unless you pay high dollar for them are generally not designed for gaming.
Other than that I have no idea why the game is behaving as it is.

I'm sorry, I have no idea what you just said.

    I'm computer illiterate.

    Do the following:
    Click Start --> Run
    Type dxdiag and click OK
This will launch dxdiag. Click Next.
Check that there are no warnings on the DirectX Files tab. If there are it could be that you have corrupt/out-of-date/non WHQL drivers.
    Click next
Run all the display tests. Note any errors. (if you have two monitors you'll need to run tests for each one)
    Click next
Run all the sound tests. Note any problems or errors
Save the report to your desktop.

Where do I find start --> run?

Start means click the big green button (on my screen at least) that says START in the bottom left hand corner of the screen. click that and right above it you should see the word run.
Click that and in the dialog box type in dxdiag
Press ok and wait for it to gather the info you need.

    Uh, I have vista.
    Mine doesn't say run.
You open up start, just a list of programs.
I thought that was what you meant before.
I hope I can get this game working...
