MATY down? Anyone having problems getting to the MATY site? I couldn't log in from work and I've been waiting all day to get on, now that I'm home, it says the system is down.
Josh is a stupid idiot for not having backups of the database. He should give JM his money back for screwing up like he did!
For your information, Pescado gets Free Hosting from us and to date, I haven't even received a penny from Pescado. If you want to chew me out go ahead. I'm doing this as a courtesy and I'm under no obligation to host Pescado's site.
I think AMM was posting with tongue in cheek (about the money). The back-ups issue is another matter. I imagine that like any user of web-space, paid-for or ex gratia, Pescado would have been informed as to the extent of his responsibilities and liabilities, civil and legal, as well as receiving confirmation of the extent of the provider's responsibilities and liabilities. It is invariably the case that the protection of data is the responsibility of the data owner; specifically that the owner must maintain his own back-ups as well as maintaining sufficient insurance to cover the costs of reinstallation and any concomittant or otherwise unavoidable or unforeseeable losses. It is exactly the same as buying a computer. If your Dell blows up and you lose a lifetime's work don't expect much to come from any attempt to sue (or otherwise embarrass) Dell. Whatever happened to MATY was not Josh's fault. Even if Josh was playing in the server room with a flame-thrower and wondered what the MATY server would look like with festoon of drippy napalm .... If some messages have been lost ... so what? It happens. Pescado, at least, retains a sense of humor ... 2032 ... arf arf arf Curious, too, that these MATY happy-slappers come here to moan ... anonymously!
