More Problems with BV--This one with Body Shop I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this, so if it needs to be moved, Mods, please feel free to help a girl out. I had been noticing my game running slower than normal in the past couple of weeks. Well, I had went on a downloading binge a couple of weeks ago, so I figured I had bloated my downloads folder again. (Some people are addicted to drugs, some are addicted to alcohol, I'm addicted to Downloading) Then yesterday I ran across this thread by beosboxboy at Insim: http://www.insimenator.net/showthread.php?t=63174 Basiclly, what it says is that there is a problem with Body Shop that it makes extra files with every file it creates. Download a Sim, you download extra files. Someone makes a beautiful collection of makeup, and you guessed it, extra files with every makeup file in the collection. I ran the Clean Pack Installer on my downloads and sure enough, I had hundreds of these files! I am afraid to delete them because as I understand it, these files may be older mesh files or some other important file. But I'm sure over 1/2 of these files are these bad Body Shop files. I have never been good with SimsPE. I know that I need to open these files up there and go through to see which ones are bad files and which ones are necessary files. Has anyone had this problem and can help walk me through cleaning out my downloads folder? I'm really wishing that we could take used software back to the store and demand our money back. . . Bon Voyage is the most problematic EP since Pets! And it's a shame, because I have really loved the gameplay with it.
Ooh, poor you. I read that post by Beosoxboy and it was very interesting. He specifically mentions that the files causing the problems are copies of Sims06.package and that they are around 6.8MB in size. That ought to make them a fair bit easier to check. Use the details view in Windows Explorer (under the View drop down menu and then make sure you have the File Size column present and click it to order the files by size ... you then only need to look at files in the 6-7MB size range. Hope you get sorted out.
LOL!! Oh, gee, why didn't I think of that?! (Smacks forehead) Okay, I see that my computer measures everything in kbs--So my largest of these files is 2,260 kb. I'm doing the math here (and assuming that 1,000 kb make up 1 mb, right?) and so that largest file is only 2.2 mb. That's not big enough to qualify as these problem files. Shew, that's a relief! Thanks Mirelly!
Glad it helps set your mind at ease ... but it won't be explaining what's causing your puter to grind slow. You could try the patch which might help but if you have played an unpatched a lot on vacation lots you may already have a large number of tour guides. When I was without internet access, this time last year, I didn't even consider buying Pets. When I started a course where I had access to a PC with a net connection I immediately hit MATY and downloaded the "official" Pescado patches. I then felt safe to buy Pets ... just in time for Christmas I had absolutely no trouble with Pets and never even bothered with the official patches cos I got Seasons barely more than 3 months later. I patched Seasons twice and then gave up. Pescado's hacks work better and do less harm. I'm starting to sound like a right curmugeon, ain't I?
