Movie: Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire - Who Saw It? Okay who saw it? . I did...for the first time in the history of my life, I've actually went to see a midnight release of a film. I must be insane to see the movie at midnight. Simply brilliant movie though..well off to bed now. 3AM Thoughts? Comments?.
I'm dragging my mom with my to go see it this coming week for a matinee feature. I have the whole week of Thanksgiving off, so I plan to go when there aren't as many people there (I really hate crowded theaters). I'm so excited, though!
Well, I'm seeing it either over the weekend or next week. Wanted to see it today (and sit in the front row! I sat four rows from the front when we went to see the 2nd movie and when the basilisk jumped out of the water I like had a heart attack...) but I had violin lessons. :(
The poll should have "Haven't seen it, but plan to soon!" and "Not seeing in theatres, but plan to pick up as DVD / Video". For all the HP movies I have fallen into the DVD / Video crowd. My wife and kids have seen them all in the theatre, however. They thought it was the best movie yet.
I saw it, didn't like it that much, and I'm a big fan of the series. But I'm glad to hear that some people liked it. Maybe if I saw it again. It did have some very good things about it, and the special effects were awesome.
Saw it at midnight. Loved it. Must see it again. Dislikes: THey had to leave soo much out hopefully the dvd release will include a lot of extras
I'm hoping to see it with my Sister this weekend in OH. One of the few things I'm looking forward to about visiting my relatives. And Hubby's relatives.
Well, I finally saw it yesterday, and I agree. Sure, the special effects were awesome, but it seriously felt like a summary of the book and not a movie based on the actual book. I was looking forward to the Quidditch World Cup so much, and then they didn't even show them playing! And then I hated the actors as well. I liked the actor for Dumbledore in the first (and second? I don't know, don't know my actors well) movie(s) better, this one is just a lot more...harsh. Isn't he supposed to turn out to be like a father figure to Harry? And then Rupert Grint, Danielle Radcliffe, and whoever play the twins, all look...strange, in my opinion, with their beatles' haircuts.
The more I think about it the more I realize ... I hated it. They were in such a rush they took the heart right out of the book. It should have been longer. And as much as I liked the Quidditch World Cup in the book that's the part that should have been cut. It was totally unnecessary to the movie. They could have worked the clues in later and it would have given them more time to spend on the heart of the story.
Well, I guess you're right--they might as well've just cut out the World Cup rather than put in that pathetic excuse for it. And the whole movie just felt too...dark. I mean, yes, the 4th book is the first really dark book in the series, but they were also a lot of more light-hearted parts in it, as well. I just felt like the movie was too grey and blue, rather than yellow, like in the 1st 2 movies.
There was a lot of conversation over at my MIL's house about the books and the movie, pros and cons. Mostly they liked it. Hubby and I sat quietly without comment because not only have we not seen this movie we have not read ANY of the books. I think we must be the only two people out of 6 billion on this planet who haven't read them. It's an odd feeling. Someday we'll rent the DVD. We've seen the others in the series. They were fun. I doubt we'll ever read the books, though.
My suggestion is that you do read the books Lynet. While they are written as children's books, it is written at such a level that there is like multiple themes and different information targetted for each age group. It's one of those rare books that you'll find that the book is written in such a way, each age group is reading a totally different story, yet it is very much the same book. Only one other book in the world (to my knowledge) can do this: The Bible.
Yeah, they cut out so many important parts of the books from the movies, there's really no point in watching them if you don't read the books.
It came out the day I went away, so I plan to catch it when I get back. I'm easily pleased. I'll probably LOVE the film, it was OH so brilliant, etc. I love basically any film I actually want to watch.
You know, I didn't think it was really bad, but then again it's been 2 years since I read the book, and so I had forgotten a lot of what was in it. The main plot-lines as I remembered them were there. Then again, my sister re-read the book last week, and complained bitterly throughout the movie about how it sucked. (Then again, she got really emotional during the Yule Ball scenes and whispered proudly, "Look at little Hermionie! She's got b__bies!" and made me choke on my popcorn) On the other side of me were the boys: my son Al, age 14, nephew Drake age 8, and cousin Dylan age 9. Drake had never seen a Harry Potter movie in the theater, and Dylan had never seen a Harry Potter movie at all, nor read the books. All three of them were swept away by the movie. We had more fun watching their reactions to it than watching the movie, I think. Oh, and Al cried at the end. He tried to hide it and look cool, since his younger cousins were looking at him, but a mother knows these things. They all three agreed that it was the coolest movie ever, next to the Star Wars Films and LOTR Trilogy.
