I'm not an expert but I'd recommend buying a PC instead of a laptop. Mainly because in the future you'll be able to buy new parts for it, which you cant with a laptop.

swmeek I got your benevolent dictator pal!!

How far with expansions are you wanting to go on this laptop?
    I wouldn't over do it personally .
The later ep's pets and on really start to get heavy use of the shader programs and when you mix with this with lots of custom content and big lots then you gonna see a lot of lag especially if you let it run hot or play for long hours without using a laptop cooler.
Honestly you should do what simstar says and save up for a desktop and then when Sims 3 comes you'll be more prepared for it then.

There's nothing wrong with a laptop per-se; just that you're going to have to shell up more upfront to get the best of the best to last you several years.
